Planning a christening- need some help!

I'm in the process of planning DS' Christening party in April.

After calling up a bunch of restaurants, halls, and catering halls, we decided to rent a VFW and cater in food.

I'm hoping for some recommendations for the following:

1- Favors. I would really like edible favors. Does anyone have a good vendor that makes edible favors? I'm thinking cookies.

2- Invitations. This is an where I'd like to save $$ so nothing crazy. Online, in store, anything.

3- Decorations. What should we have? Centerpieces? Balloons?

4- Entertainment. We'll only have about 9 kids so I'm thinking a DJ will be enough?

Thank you!!!

Favors- highly recommend sugar chic I used her for DD's Christening cookie favors

Decorations- someone on here recommended Bella Balloons. I was very happy with them. They set everything up and it was great.

Sugar chic or cookie lady for sugar cookies. I've gotten a cake from lady j which was awesome and I know she has cookies too. I haven't tried them but in sure they are great. For my shower I went cheaper on favors since I splurged on a cake. I got pink and white " black and white" cookies from Jonathan lords bakery. I made favor tags but you can get them on etsy too.

You can get invites in vista prints cheap. If you are a upromise member, enter through their site and its an extra 30% off. Or buy a design on etsy. I've heard Costco is decent for invites.

Planning a christening- need some help!

I only had about 10 kids at my son's christening, and I hired Professional Kids Entertainment. They did a song along, face painting, and balloons. Not sure if they offer a DJ, but the kids had a blast and the parents were happy to enjoy their meal in peace while the kids played lol.

For invites, we always do snapfish... Like Christmas cards. An alternative is to go to party city and just buy them. If you keep it simple, they can come out to less than $1 each.

I priced out balloon people and found that the set up was just too much. We did one balloon per table (foil) that we picked up the day before. We tied them to stuffed animals for favors. Every kid had one stuffed animal. The stuffed animals came out to under $5 and the balloon $2. $7 per table decorations and favors. The kids played with the stuffed animals throughout the party! It was cute to see them run around figuring out which was theirs.

We ordered DD's baptism invites from Shutterfly.

CP's will most likely be balloons.

My DS christening is next weekend. We only invited family since we both have big families so I just did an evite.

For favors, I am making chocolate cross lollipops, chocolate covered oreos with crosses on them and chocolate covered pretzels. They are all easy to make!

For decorations, I bought large hurricane vases from Michaels with blue stones and a pillar candle in the middle.

As far as entertainment, we didnt get a DJ or anything (which I hope is ok....kinda second guessing if we should have had some sort of entertainment as we are having a lot of kids) I did make activity bags for all the kids though. Hoping that's enough!

Re: Planning a christening- need some help!

I bought a huge box of blank printable invites at Target for pretty cheap and used those...they came out beautiful!

I would stick with the DJ and then buy some coloring books, crayons, small crafts for the kids and put them all on one table.

Im always a fan of flowers for centerpieces...there are some awesome ideas on pinterest that combine candys or something else with flowers.

Favors : Sugar cookies
Invites: Tiny Prints
Music: I-phone with a docking station.

It was a private room about 40 people..we had a u shaped table so we just put one centerpiece in the center with balloons.

Congrats and good luck.

I've used Dover Girls Desserts for custom iced sugar cookies on several occasions and they were awesome!

Re: Planning a christening- need some help!

I used Popped by KT and had GORGEOUS cake pops!!!! I think they were $2 each and then the basket was an extra $5?? FM me if you want pictures... They were delicious and absolutely beautiful. She has a FB page called Popped! by KT.

We rented out an old house but didn't have any dancing or anything because it was very intimate and low key... There was an art exhibit going on at the time and so it was like renting out an art museum. I made a playlist of classical, jazz, etc music and plugged my iPhone into a stereo system. Done and free. :)

I got invitations from finestationary.com. Beautiful.

I had white linens and three light blue pillar candles (all different sizes) on each table, encased in a circular glass vase. I wish I'd posted pics here - maybe I will tmw! FM me if you'd like to see the end result. It was such a beautiful and unique Christening - we received many compliments.

Re: Planning a christening- need some help!

I had DD's christening in our backyard - rented tables and tents and everything. I'll NEVER do that again! Way too much work and no savings at all! You are smart to have it at a VFW hall! As for invitations, I found one on Etsy I liked and had it printed though a photo company. The PDF file was cheap (like $12) and then it was just the cost of a photo. I personally like them printed in matte so give yourself extra time to be able to order them online and have them shipped if you like that too. I used one of DD's newborn pics on the invite. For favors, I did chocolate overed pretzels that I made myself. My sister did cookies with my neice's picture on them. I think an edible favor is the best idea! As for decorations, potted plants will be very inexpensive in April. I think they would look great as centerpieces and people will really be happy to take them home - as opposed to balloons which sometimes get in the way of conversations and don't always look perfect if some pop before the party. I didnt have entertainment at our party since it was just in our backyard but I think a dj is enough to make 9 kids happy. Happy planning!
