turning one - 3 questions :)

DS is turning one - when should he start having one nap a day instead of 2? He still has a morning and later afternoon and defintely needs the sleep time otherwise he is cranky.

Second question - he is wearing soft soled shoes but when should he start with the hard soled shoes? He does walk very well already but i just started putting the soft shoes on him regularly.

Last question!!! We switched to the convertible seat and have it rear facing - when did you turn it around? i know the recommended age is until 2 but i can't imagine how i am going to go that long - he is very long and super squished already!

Thanks if you have made it this far, i have a lot of questions today lol!

Most kids transition to one nap between 15-18 months, but it varies greatly. You just have to follow their cues. When they start dropping either the morning or afternoon nap, it might be time to try to combine them into one longer one in the early afternoon.

Once they are fully walking you can switch to real shoes. I recommend Stride Rites for new walkers. I usually only put hard soled shoes on my DD when we go out. At home she wears slippers or just socks.

Yes, the new recommendation is 2, but we plan to turn my daughter's car seat around this weekend and she is just shy of 17 months. We turned my son's around when he was 15 months.

Hope all of this helped!

Re: turning one - 3 questions :)

Dd went down to 1 nap the week before her 1st bday.

We got dd her 1st pair of real shoes at 16 months.

Dd is 23 months and is still rear facing. She's a peanut, so we'll keep her that way for while

Re: turning one - 3 questions :)

My DS didn't drop his second nap until well after he turned 1... more like 15 or 16 months... can't remember exactly.

I would get regular hard soled sneakers at this point. I think it helps with balance and to get used to the feel of real shoes. I like Stride Rite too, although their shoes can be a little pricey.

As far as the car seat, DS turned 2 in September but we didn't turn his seat around for another month or so after that. I would wait as long as possible to turn it, unless your DC is truly uncomfortable and complaining.

Re: turning one - 3 questions :)

DS dropped his second nap around 16 months. I was able to tell it was time because his naps got really short and he gave me more trouble going down in the morning.

We got him hard soled shoes as soon as he started walking at 11 months. But he only wears them outside. In the house, he stills wears Robeez or just socks.

We still have him rear facing at 19 months. We hope to keep it that way until 2 and then we'll see. His legs are squished, but he doesn't complain.

DS 1 dropped the second nap between 16-17 months.

For hard soled shoes - I bought them as soon as he started walking but, he didn't really wear them until he was walking about a month. I put them on earlier and he HATED them so I wanted to make sure he was walking well first and then reintroduced them. He wore Robeez otherwise to protect his feet.

As for forward facing, we turned him around at 18 months. The recommendation was fairly new so we moved him earlier. I'm planning on keeping DS 2 rear facing until closer to 24 months.

Re: turning one - 3 questions :)

DS is 16 months and still takes 2 naps a day.

He didnt walk until he was 14 months and the only time he wears shoes is if we go out in which case they are hard soles. I never did soft sole shoes.

He is rear facing. He is squished in there Ill admit it (hes a BIG boy) but I just dont feel safe turning him around. I asked my ped what the weight suggestion was for rear facing in hopes we could turn him around sooner since he is so big but she said its not a weight thing, its an age / muscle development thing and did not recommend turning him forward until 2 years regardless of his weight. So rear facing we stay.

My DS just turned one. He naps when he naps. some days it is one others it is 2.

My DS has been walking for months and has been in hard soles since 10-11 months.

He is still rear facing. I will play that by ear as when to turn him. He is not uncomfortable so he will stay that way til that changes.

My older son dropped to one nap around 17/18 months. Younger one is 13 months today and still takes 2 naps. Every baby is different- you really just have to follow his cues on that.

If he is full on walking, hard soles shoes are fine. We have always only put shoes on put boys when going out though. In the house, always just socks or bare feet.

My older one will be 3 this month and is still rear facing. It is tremendously safer for them to be RF. I haven't yet seen any reason to switch him. He sits with his legs crossed, or occasionally with his feet up the seat of the car. Sorry to be blunt, but I'd much rather deal with finding leg room than the potential broken neck from an accident.

Re: turning one - 3 questions :)

My kids all dropped to 1 nap well after their first birthday.

I put my kids in hard sole shoes when they begain walking. Between 8-10 months.

My DS is 34 inches at 21 months and still rear facing with no problem. I don't plan to turn him anytime soon.
