Are these gifts appropriate?
What gifts out of this list are appropriate or inappropriate for a 16 month old (1 year & 4 months old)? If you don't think the gift is appropriate, what age do you think it should be given?
-Sand/Water Table -Large Floor Puzzles -Cash Register -Doctor's Kit -Kitchen Set

Re: Are these gifts appropriate?
Sand/Water table - we don't have one because DD liked to eat sand. Other people like them for 18 month - 3 year old children, but since it is the winter the child will have time to "grow" into it before use so it would be ok for a christmas gift.
-Large Floor Puzzles - I think 18 months and up for foam and 2 1/2 for some of the other kinds.
-Cash Register - I think it would really depend upon the type, some are for 4 year old kids but others are for younger children. If there is small money then I would keep it for later. (If it is the little tikes one then I could see an 18 month old playing with it).
-Doctor's Kit - 18 months
-Kitchen Set - 18 months
ETA: Do the gifts have age ranges on the boxes? People without young children often don't know what to give or what is age appropriate. It took me a while to educate my family on age appropriate gifts and they still sometimes get it incorrect. DS is 5 and was given things for a 3 year old. I had to remind my brothers that he is growing up. Its ok it was meant with love. Better to get something than nothing and if you can't use it today your DC can grow into it.

Re: Are these gifts appropriate?
Those sound appropriate to me. A 16-month-old is a little young for pretend play, so they won't get much use out of the doctor's kit or kitchen yet. But they might like taking things out of drawers/compartments and putting them back in, stacking the components, etc. now and then when they're about 2 they can start playing with them like they're "supposed" to.
My DD has had a water table since she was 12 mo and she loves it, and she started being interested in large floor puzzles when she turned 15 months.

Re: Are these gifts appropriate?
They are all appropriate gifts imo. A remote control car or something would be inappropriate to me, kwim? Like anything that would have to get stashed for an unreasonable amount of time.

All pretty appropriate.
The doctor kit may have pointy things that the kid can stick places. We tossed ours.
If this is your kid... Try them out. They all sound like toys kids around that age love... You may need to wait a month or two.

They may not be stuff the child is old enough for RIGHT NOW but they're close enough, I would bet within 6 months they would be playing appropriately with stuff like the kitchen set and the doctor kit.

Re: Are these gifts appropriate?
My son is 16 months and he has had a water table since 13 months and he and his "friend" played with it all summer. He also loves the large Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles that have animals and bug shapes that can taken out. He still can't get the pieces in but he knows what the animals are and he attempts to get them in. He doesn't have a cash register and if it has small coins it may be a choking hazard. I wanted to buy him a doctors kit to get him used to the stethoscope since he hates going to the doctor but I forgot about it. I think it's age appropriate. My husband and I bought him a kitchen set for Christmas. We thought he wouldnt use it for a few months but it's his favorite gift. He pretends to make tea and makes pretend phone calls with the phones. His also makes sounds when you put a pot on the stove and he really likes to do that. Overall I think the gifts are age appropriate for an 18 month old.

I think it depends on the kids individual development because at this age kids development is all over but I think sand and water table is def appropriate

Re: Are these gifts appropriate?
I think it depends on your child. I have twins that are 15 months old and they have Melissa and Doug puzzles, Kitchen and FP Cash Register. I don't think they would have a clue what to do with the doctors kit and the water table they will get for this summer.

All seem appropriate to me. DD is 20 months and got a water table for her 1 yr bday and the other gifts are stuff she plays with now or things that I'd love for her to play with now.

Re: Are these gifts appropriate?
we bought a sand water table for DS when he was about that age for use that summer. I never filled it with sand though. Just water and he loved standing there and playing with it. So i think its fine if you keep the sand out for now.
the other kits may have lots of little parts that are not good for little ones if they shove everything in their mouth.
the cash register i'd probably wait until 3. floor puzzles..depends. we have one someone bought us and said 3 & up on there. I think its good for DS now that he's 3.
