What did you do with your sharps container and hazardous sharps?

My dr. office told me to call the sanitation dept. the sanitation dept told me to call my closest hospital. I never got a call back from the hospital and I called 3 times. I ran out of room in my container so I started using an empty box of kitty litter.

I brought them to my drs office and emptied them into their hazardous materials container and then brought my sharps container home empty. I thought it was usual practice for the drs office to dispose of them for you.

I would have thought so too. When I walked in with it they told me they couldn't take it.

Thanks anyway.

I just wanted to say this is what I thought too. I never had an issue bringing my sharps containers to Dr.B. I haven't tried with SIRM yet.

It's silly for them not to take it because they have their own sharps containers to dispose of.. you would think they could just add them to the mix.

Anyway I hope you get this figured out. At one point, I let them accumulate under my bathroom sink where I had like 6 or 7 full containers Chat Icon It was absurd...

Jackie- SIRM takes the sharps containers. I used to bring them a bag full.

Re: disposing of hazardous sharps

Thanks, I never remember when I'm cycling to bring them in. I must have at least 6 or 7. And there is a facility around the corner (well almost) from where I live. I'll call next year Chat Icon

disposing of hazardous sharps

I have had sharps in my house since my April (and then July) cycles. In my town, you need to bring it to a drop off site, but I keep forgetting. If we do another cycle, I will definitely need to dispose of them!

Check your town. many can be put out with the garbage as long as they are marked.

Also most nursing homes take them on a certain day of the month.

Re: disposing of hazardous sharps

most hospitals have a place for sharps from home. You bring them in your plastic container and dispose in the specially marked sharps container. never through sharps in the garbage.
