What does your day care/sitter do if your DC is upset about you leaving them?
Posted before about DD's new separation anxiety... she is 25 months old now and just recently got hysterical when we leave for work in the morning and the nanny gets here.
Wondering what the best way for the nanny to handle this is? We're talking 30 minutes of full blown "cant breathe" crying hysterics where she doesn't want the nanny near her (this isn't a new nanny, she's been with us three months now and DD never cared about us leaving before!).
Any advice would be much appreciated!

First
I would have the nanny try and distract your daughter by maybe doing something she likes or just putting something on the tv she likes but don't cramp her space or force things upon her. She will calm down. It is hard when they get in hysterics. Maybe have your daughter stand at the door and wave. When my boys went through that phase they would go to the window and wave and i would blow kisses.

Distract her as much as she can. Maybe get a new toy she may be into, put on a tv show she likes, have an actiivity ready to go (painting or play dough) Does she have a lovey she can hold to calm her? Just say goodbye, don't hang around it will only make it harder for her to get over.

This. The longer you stay the harder it will be. Tell DD that when Nanny X gets here you have to go to work and you will be home later. Give her a hug/kiss and then leave. Its really hard but its so much easier.
WHen DS went to daycare, he'd get upset (not as bad as your DD). I had to put him in the highchair facing away from the door and give him a snack. If he saw me leave he'd get more upset. They always said after a few minutes he was okay though.

I've thought about just leaving her in the crib, going to work, and have the nanny go up there to start her day instead of us, but she asks at night for "Mommy/Daddy knock" meaning we come get her. I worry if we "abandon" her in the morning if things would be worse?

There is a song "Mommy comes back " if you want to google & sing to your DC.

I don't think you should leave without seeing her or saying goodbye. Just make it known that when Ms.Sitter gets there, she gets a hug and a kiss and then you have to go. I think it would be worse if she didn't see you. It does get easier though. You think it will never end.

DD sometimes cries and the teacher just says, "bye mommy!" and gets her engaged in something else..she is in daycare and other kids she knows start coming in then, too, so it's another good distraction..I have to get out fast...I feel bad, but it ends up being better..they tell me she stops crying shortly after I leave and that "it's for me" LOL

Yeah, you're probably right... leaving while she is still up there is wimping out on my part ;)
