Is 4oz for a one week old too much?

DD is a week old and has been taking 3 oz since we got home.

Now she is barely making 3 hours between feedings and seems like she wants more.

Is it way too much to bump her up to 4oz already??

My son was drinking that much upon discharge from the hospital at 4 days old. I fed on demand. If he was hungry, he ate. Honestly, this kid eventually drank 9 oz bottles at a few months old.

Thanks! DD was taking 2 oz in the hospital and one of the nurses got nasty with me when I gave her more than 1 oz.

I will try the 4 oz and see how it goes.

First I would offer an extra oz after the initiall bottle and burp. Then offer another oz if needed. If I'm consistently giving another oz then I'd start offering more. DD was taking 3-4 ozs by 2 weeks so your baby may be a good eater too!

Johnny left the hospital drinking 4 ounces at a time and was up to 6 by at least 2 weeks old..can't hurt! They'll let you know when they're done!

Same here dd was eating 3oz by the time we left the hospital and a nurse told me not to give it to her and let her cry. I couldn't do that. At 2 weeks I prepare 4 oz bottles and add more if needed. Sometimes she drinks 5 oz and sometimes she only drinks 2 oz

Thanks so much for asking this question. My DS is also 1 week old and I'm having the same issues. The nurses also told me 2 oz was a lot but the ped said to put 1/2 ounce more than he will eat and if he drinks it without spitting up afterwards then I know to increase the amount. So he is currently drinking 3 oz but is not satisfied and not making it to the 3 hour mark. I'm going to increase it to 3 1/2 tonight and if it still isn't enough will go up.

My daughter will be 3 weeks on Saturday, and she is drinking anywhere between 5 and 6 ounces! I make 6 ounce bottled, sometimes she drinks it all, sometimes only about 5 or 5 and a half, but she doesn't spit up and I burp her about every ounce and a half and she goes anywhere from 3 and a half to 5 hrs in between!

Soooooooooo glad I opened this thread!

I was worried that my 7 week old was taking too much (5 oz every 4 hours)!!

Glad to see we all have some healthy eaters!

I think all babies are different. DD is 5 days old and still doing 2 oz but she was doing 1 oz at a time when we left the hospital. I was told by the Ped that 2-3 oz is normal every 2-3 hours but to feed them however much they eat when she is hungry

All babies are different. My girls still take 3-3.5 oz every 3-5 hrs. Sometimes they eat 2 oz and fall asleep. We feed them when they want and the amt they Want. If he's hungry and gaining fine then it's ok.
