I know you can't get the flu shot if you are allergic to eggs...

but what about giving the shot to infants? My DD is 8 months old and has not eaten eggs yet. She is supposed to go for her flu shot tomorrow. How do I know if it is dangerous for her to get it?

You should talk to your pediatrician first, but if it makes you feel better, my DS has a fairly severe egg allergy and he can get the flu shot, not the flu mist nasal vaccine. Additionally, new research has led allergists to recommend allergy shots for egg allergic patients since bad egg reactions to it are extraordinarily rare. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

I just read an article on the flu shot and egg allergies.. They are saying it is ok in some people with egg allergies... DS got his before he had eggs and he was ok..

I know several children who have egg allergies who are able to get the shot. Talk to your ped if you are concerned. Most people I know did the shot at 6 months but their kids had not eaten eggs before.

DD has egg allergies and got both doses of the flu shot just fine. I was hesitant but her ped was comfortable w it so we went ahead. She had no reaction.
