Cause of LPD other than progesterone level

Wondering if anyone has experience with/info on what could cause a luteal phase defect other than low progesterone levels. I seem to start spotting very early on in my cycles - even the past three cycles where I was on PIO. I'm on CD18 of a mock cycle now and am on Estrogen and PIO and all my numbers are plenty high and yet I began spotting. The docs don't have any answers so I'm trying to do my own research. TIA!

Spotting is not considered AF, so it's not necessarily an issue. But spotting on CD18 seems very early. What day did you O?

For me, I always spotted very early (about 8 or 9 DPO) and had about a 10 day LP. I also spotted on PIO. But the cycle I got pregnant, I was tested at around 4 DPO and my progesterone was fine. Somehow my body just knew what to do when I got pg. I hope the same is true for you. I'm sure your drs will be able to figure it out.

This particular month they supressed O to test a bunch of things (mock cycle) so I'm not really sure. But, when we were trying naturally and I was using BBT/:) tests I would generally O around CD 17 or 18, be spotting by CD 21 and full AF by CD 24/25. I think my longest LP was 8 days while I was monitoring (until they started me on prog supps).

If they suppressed O this month, you're having breakthrough bleeding and you can't really take anything that happens this month as "normal." If you O around CD17 and get AF around CD25, it's not actually that bad. LPD is pretty easily correctable, and I'm sure they'll do that through progesterone.

It's also possible that you're just not having a strong enough O, which causes the low progesterone. Meds like clomid or femara (later injectables) could help you with this issue. Your RE will figure it out. LPD is actually pretty simple in the grand scheme of infertility.

Good luck!

ITA. Just the simple change of having more than one corpus luteum post-ovulation to produce progesterone, which is just a by-product of making more than one follicle on the meds, can increase your levels enough to address LPD.

Thanks as always, ladies! This was definitely one of those go-with-your-gut situations. I knew something was wrong since I was getting the early bleeding even while on progesteron with great progestone levels.

I went to my doc to get checked out on the day the early spotting started and turns out I'm not bleeding from the uterus, I'm bleeding from my cervix. It's a good thing from a TTC perspective, means I'm not shedding my lining too soon. But of course now there is a whole new thing to figure out - why am I'm bleeding from the cervix each month before AF!? I'm going to have it checked again next month to ensure that's what the early bleeding is.
