Any Veterans receiving Tax Breaks??
My DH is a Marine who is labeled 60% disabled after an injury in Iraq. I read a little about home tax breaks and how to apply but it seems like the amt of $ you actually get off your taxes is really minimal because it only comes off property taxes. Does anyone have any experience? My property taxes are around 3k so I was wondering what the discount would be like..TIA!

Yes my father is a disabled veteran and gets a break on his proprerty taxes. Contact your town assesors office. In town of Babylon, you need to apply for this before March and then it is good for the next tax year. So if you apply in 2013, it will be for 2014 taxes.

My question is where do you live that your taxes are only 3k?
My answer to your question is that yes, you have to go through your town assessor's office and they can give you the information on getting a veteran's exemption. Here is Brookhaven it isn't much, but it's something.
