BF newborn is constipated , what can I do? sorry TMI
DD never had this while I BF her so I don't know. I forgot to ask the ped if I can use anything for constipation for my DS. He is 7 w EBF , but started giving him vitamins and now he seems to be constipated. He usually goes after almost ever feeding, but hasn't gone since last night, he is bothered by it too I can tell, he starts pushing and grunting after every feeding , trying to go (I think) but nothing, couple of times he went tiny bit -mean like a drop- and that's it , then he starts crying , but not a hungry cry.
Called the ped again , waiting for a call back , figured I'd ask here.

My DS used to go after every feeding for about 3 weeks, than it changed to maybe once a day. Than he became very constipated. He is now getting better at 11 weeks. We did bicycle with his legs, rubbed his belly clockwise, blah blah blah. A few times I had to stick the tip of a qtip covered in vaseline in his butt to give him the urge to push and get it all out. The vitamins are probably constipating your baby. Iron seems to block it up a bit. Hope this helps.

my LO used to go after every feeding, sometimes twice. After 3 weeks it was less frequent and at about 2 months he became very constipated. Our pediatrician suggested we give our son a little prune juice once or twice a day, depending on how constipated he was

I started giving DS prune juice daily- per ped. An ounce juice w an ounce of water.

Its normal for BF babies to go without bowel movements for a few days. The only thing you can give him is gripe water. Andrew still goes a couple of days without pooping and passes some awful gas at times. There is not much I can do for him. At that age you shouldnt give him prune juice. Just continue to feed him to push it out lol. Hang in there!

You know what else, I take my prenatals every other day bc I feel like the iron in the vitamins is too much for him.

My DD hadn't had a bowel movement for 3 days. Doctor told me to drink prune juice since she was BF.
