When do you stop using them?

Rectal thermometers
DS just turned two and I still do. It's a quick read, I think it takes 5-10 seconds at the most depending on how high his temp is. It's the most accurate way of taking a temp, although I know I am going to have to get an ear or temporal one eventually.

Re: Rectal thermometers
My DD is 4 and I will still use them so I can get an accurate read when she is very sick.

Re: Rectal thermometers
DS will be 2 in a couple of months. I am asking because one of my "friends" on facebook posted something about it and I was wondering how old is "too old". I prefer rectal because of the most accurate reading. Not a fan of the ear ones.

Rectal thermometers
Never used them to start with. Pediatricans don't when I take her in Only once did she ever get it up the butt and that was because I had to go to an ER type thing when I first moved to TX (i had no doctor yet)
ETA: Not a fan at ALL of the ear ones. They do NOT get a good reading IMHO. Says the mom of a child who's ear infections made one ear come up with 103 while the other ear was a normal 98

Re: Rectal thermometers
Ds is almost 3 and I still use it. IT is the most accurate. The temporal doesn't read high temps on him. And I proved that the last time he was sick with a 103 fever at PM peds. They used the temporal thermometer and it read 100.9.. He was actually 103.1

Rectal thermometers
My son will be 3 in a few months and we still use it. I see no reason not to- it's by far the most accurate and it's quick and easy and impossible to do wrong.
