Its been less than 8 weeks since My Dad went into the hospital
and he's back. The wound he's been dealing with is healing ok but now we've got another battle.
he went home two weeks ago but sees a doctor/nurse every day for the rewrapping of his wound. For the last WEEK and a half (yes a near 10days of suffering) he's been suffering of tummy issues. I would ask "What does the doc say" oh it will go away its just the antibiotics. Every day I call and he's sleepy, tired, groggy and I can hear his strain. Dad, tell the doctors, oh they say it will pass. Haha.. seems everything ELSE is passing, well just drink a lot of fluid... take care dad.
Well now he's been readmitted. Why? C. Diff. I had to google it. Its killing people. Its an infection of the intestines. The VA told him it was "just C. Diff" no biggie some antibiotics and you're right as rain. I called and he's in the hospital so he repeated what they told him.. the nurse says "Is that your daughter in Texas" (yeah I called a lot the first visit and asked a lot of questions) so of course he says yes. I hang up as they were doing his wound re-wrap.
I called back about 15mins later (and after I googled). Dad did they mention how bad this is? "Not until you called" AFTER I hung up they told him he could die of it. Its dangerous and its really not 'just C. Diff'.
This is how we treat our Vietam Vets, our Disabled Veterans. They told hiim that they though the loose stuff was due to some meds they gave him.. for 10days?!!??! JESUS!
I need him to MOVE back to Texas ASAP. God I hope he survives long enough and has enough strength to move down next year. He is planning to and I'm starting to rework my finances to help. I swear this crud up there's gonna kill him!
Wound isn't closed up yet. Given how large it started, this isn't a surprise at all. It is however moving along nicely. His blood sugar is up and down but withing acceptable ranges. I have no idea about his kidneys but now that he's back in their 'care' I hope they can montior him.

Its been less than 8 weeks since My Dad went into the hospital
Prayers for your dad! My dad was in the hospital and in a coma for a month. Very grim outlook, but he pulled through. The power of prayer prevailed. Your family is in my thoughts!

C. Diff is horrible. My BIL had it numerous times after long hospital stays.. It is treatable but it takes a LONG time for it to go away.. Yogurt is good and probiotics. It is also very contagious. It is very common after antibiotic use... Hopefully he will be feeling better soon..

Many that he gets through it quickly. I had it after being on antibiotics for a few weeks and it took me about 4 months on and off of antibiotics to finally get rid of it. It was awful and it still terrifies me to take antibiotics. I would definitely stay on top of things but hopefully he'll be better soon.

yeah and my step mother is a slob. I suggested she clean the house because he'd be coming home with an open wound and she blew me off. Says she's too old and blind to clean. She's a pig. She's FILTHY. I mean bad. She stayed with me for a week and I had clean poop off the toilet and refused to let her hold AJ (she was still a baby) until i myself SAW her wash her hands!

Re: Its been less than 8 weeks since My Dad went into the hospital
I just wanted to add that you may want to keep on eye on his eating- as best you can from where you are. The medicine I was on (flagyl) left me with no appetite whatsoever and I lost a decent amount of weight. I remember it feeling like there were rocks in my stomach and also it leaves a terrible taste in your mouth all the time. The only thing appetizing were foods doused in lemon juice since that seemed to cut the bad taste.
It was a terrible experience, but at the same time I wasn't terribly ill from it. I know I was otherwise young and healthy but hopefully your dad will get rid of it and be fine.

They should have had him on probiotics to prevent this. It's the dehydration from the diarrhea that is the danger. Make sure he's on probiotics and try to get him to eat yogurt. Hope he gets better soon.

No, the treatment is 3 weeks. And he will probably need IV hydration (fluid through his vein).
