refusing cereals/solids
My daughter is 5 1/2 months old. At 5 months I started rice cereal and she refused it. I added peaches and she spit them out. I have tried oatmeal, apples and pears and she wont eat any of it! She makes a yucky face and lets it pool in her mouth. Has anyone had this problem?

Re: refusing cereals/solids
I was just coming on to post something like this! My DD is almost 6 months old. We have been trying to introduce solids to her for a few weeks now. She refuses to even open her mouth! I have tried different fruits, different consistencies of cereal, different times of the day, distracting her with toys...nothing works! How can I get her to eat?

Be patient, they just might not be ready. Take a break for a few days/ a week and try again. Maybe look up and try baby led weaning. Some babies just don't like purees
Don't stress and don't force. Eventually they'll want to eat!!

Thank you everyone. I guess I was just concerned because she is no longer breastfed but her weight is good and she takes her formula!

Formula and/or breast milk are their main source of nutrition. They both have enough in them for baby to be satisfied. Starting foods at a young age is for practice more then anything. Again, give it some time and try again. Start the cereal super thin, almost like the formula. Everytime she takes it make it a tiny bit thicker. If she is still refusing, wait a few more days. She'll get it eventually!!

I was also going to suggest Baby Led Weaning. The "weaning" part is just a British term. They'll continue to drink to get all their nutrients. I think they suggest starting BLW at six months and it gives your baby more control and also help with their coordination. If you type it into Google or even YouTube you'll get a better idea of how they start. Good luck either way!
