Not sure how old she is but when DD had a bad cold last winter (and was about 18m) the Dr. said she could have 1/2 tsp of children's Benadryl to dry her out, might help for you?

Yes at that age they can have benedryl- but the dose needs to be determined by their weight- so the Dr needs to tell you how much. The bottle says not for children under 4- but as long as you get the proper dose from your ped, she can have it. It worked wonders when DD was puking from her post nasal drip last year.

I second/triple benedryl. We give a full tsp since age 2. From 1 - 2yrs we gave half that. Also since Age 1 we've been giving her Claritin to help dry her up during the day (1/2 tsp every 12 hours, but we generally skip the second dose).

Good Luck. Claritin and Benedryl both work for me. Zyrtec and Allegra did not. I had to play around until i found ones that work.
We give her a half tsp at 7am and skip the 7pm to let her 'normalize' then if she's still snotty by bed time or if she flares up, we give her Dye-Free Benedryl (Target brand up and up) for a 4-6hr relief by then she's asleep. If she's sickly or getting there, we just keep the dosages of Claritin going for the full 24hrs.
Both the ENT and the regular Ped like that Claritin (and/or Benedryl) dry her out. Just posted recently that I asked my doc about it at her 4yr appt. She said she'd rather us give her OTC antihistimines everyday forever than to drug her with antibiotics due to infections caused by fluid build up, irration, etc.

Going through the same thing here with DS. Claritin isn't cutting it anymore. I can't give him Benadryl unless it is an absolute emergency. Makes him bounce off the walls. I just bought Childrens Zyrtec to see how that works. I give hm 1/2 a dose when he wakes up and the other half before bed..

i know its too late for this cold but always keep a humidifier on near where she sleeps - all year round. it really helps with post nasal!
