Dental work durning pregnancy
A it safe to have a filling done when your pregnant? Before I knew I was pregnant I had my yearly check up with x-rays. Should I be worried?

An xray before you knew you were pregnant was fine -- they likely covered you up, I assume?
As far as the dental work, ask your OB. I don't know what numbing agents are ok.

I had to have fillings and a root canal done when I was pregnant with DS. They just laid an extra vest over my stomach. As far as numbing agents go, the dentist better know this, but you have to have one with NO epinephrine. I believe my dentist used carbocane. It wears off a little quicker but if you're just getting a filling you should be fine.

I am 14 weeks and I had a crown done this past week. The dentist used carbocaine which wore off quickly but did the job without any epinephrine.

I had a root canal done and they had to use novicaine with no epinephrine. It xrays are needed. Minimal exposure and double lead vest.

Re: Dental work durning pregnancy
If you had tx very early on, I'm sure you are fine. I was a dental assistant when I was unknowlingly pregnant and stood in the room many times with children taking their xrays. DS is totally fine and I am also thank God! Just know dental xrays are so minimal in radiation and localized. I'm sure you had a lead vest to protect you also. Dental work is safe in the second trimester- that is when we usually treat our pregnant patients.

I'm in my 1st trimester. And yes I did have a vest on to protect me. Should I make my appointment for when I'm further along?

If it is not an emergency, then yes- I would wait until the second trimester. The ADA recommends it. It is up to your DDS and OB ultimately but I only see my pregnant patients during those months for their cleanings.
This may help.. http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/dentalwork.html

They told me you can have Novocaine with no Epi. However, I have a friend that had two fillings done with absolutely no Novocaine when she was pregnant, so you can ask how deep they need to drill, maybe you will be able to tolerate it.
