allergic reaction/lumps from PIO shots?
I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this--when I called the IVF nurses at the practice I use, they seemed surprised:
I did an IVF cycle with retrieval at the very end of July with a Lupron trigger, so my post-retrival protocol was PIO (sesame oil) shots and estrogen patches. We were supposed to do a day 5 transfer, and they ended up freezing all the embryos instead (long story involving them not figuring out I had a stenotic cervix until DURING the transfer, when I was on the table, despite the trial transfer).
About a week after I stopped the PIO shots (and I had only done 5 or 6 of them) I developed something that looked like a mosquito bite on one side of my hip/bottom where we had done the shots. Then it turned into a sort of itchy bar-shaped lump that hasn't gone away. One doc I saw thought it was a reaction to the sesame oil in the shot; another thought it was tissue damage from the shot or 'fat necrosis.' There were differing opinions on whether or not the lump (still itchy) would ever go away, or just take a few months to go away. Has anyone had anything like this?

allergic reaction/lumps from PIO shots?
I have been taking PIO for about 4 weeks and every once in a while I get a welt (like a mosquito bite) right after the injection, but it goes away. I called my IVF nurse and she said totally normal. But it happened at the site, right after injection, and it went away. I'm itchy in general at the injection sites and she also said that it normal.

I have them with every cycle. Very itchy but as the pp said, I get them within a day. They do tend to last a bit..some have lasted a few weeks. HTH

Totally normal. It takes a while for it to go away. I had felt effects for about 2 months after stopping.

Yup, sometimes longer. I'd still watch it though. If you happen to go to the RE or another Dr. I would show it to them anyway.

I swear several months later I still had sore spots and lumps and weird pains there.
I use the ethyl oleate PIO because I have a lot of allergies.

i had very large itchy lumps from PIO. once it was so bad i scratched it bloody and we had to avoid that area for a while. it sounds like a normal reaction to me, im surprised that the nurse was surprised.

Probably allergic to the sesame oil...they have other type's of poi with other oil. I would ask for that next time. Happens a lot. I would continue to apply heat to the area a d massage it daily. I have had itching for months too after stopping...and when I did that it really helped. I have an annoying cervix too.
