Please Help- SA Analysis

Hi- we have been ttc for about a year so my dh decided to get a SA done. I am def ovulating bc I have been temping. He didn't love the urologist he went to- the urologist said he had 8.8 per cc which is very low. He also has vericoles on both sides. My DH has an appointment with a fertility urologist in Stonybrook in Sept. to discuss options. His urologist didn't give us any other numbers only the 8.8. He also said his sperm were slow. We are just totally confused- can someone please shed some light on this? Thank you

I'm sorry you're going through this. The fact that there's any sperm is a good sign.

As for the vericole, it will depend on whether they are on both sides, whether they are fully or partially blocking the pathway, etc. These can usually be corrected by surgery. Only a urologist can give you more info.

You're only at the beginning of your journey. Many women on here have gotten pregnant with MF so just be patient and see what the dr has to say.

Thanks for responding....he has the vericecoles on both sides. The urologist wanted him to do another SA in six weeks. He made an appointment with a urologist who deals with fertitility issues. We just don't know if we should make an appointment with an RE- or wait until September after he sees the fertility urologist. Ugh

You may want to see an RE in the meantime to get an HSG and bloodwork done to rule out any issues you may have as well

I agree that you may want to speak with an re. Also it's just the start so dont worry too much. Good luck.

I would schedule an appointment with a RE now. Sometimes it can take 3-4 weeks to get a new patient/consult appointment.

Re: Please Help- SA Analysis

hi! i would see an RE like others said, to get the ball rolling with your testing. with MF you will need to see an RE anyway and probably do IUIs so you might as well be ahead of the game.

im not sure what urologist you are going to see but we were referred to dr sheynkin and he comes highly recommended.
good luck to you!

In my experience, I would suggest going to see and RE and get all your ducks in a row (Day 3 blood/sono, HSG, maybe a water sono). If your DH chooses to get the surgery they will most likely re-test him for the few months afterward to make sure he is OK. If all is well then you may not even need an RE to get pregnant. (MyGF's DH had the surgery and they have 2 kids naturally)... If he doesnt want to do the surgery he can always have an aspiration by the urilogist and you can do and IUI...however, that is a surgery as well and hurts WAY MORE then the varicoles.

Good Luck...Dr. Bruce Gilbert 516-487-5455 he is in Manhasset...maybe go for a second opinion??

Good Luck...everything will work out!!! Best wishes to you guys!!!!

Re: Please Help- SA Analysis

I am actually going to be in the majority here. MFI can (and often does) take a fwe months to diagnose and correct, if correctable.

DH was under the treatment of his urologist for 6 months before I saw an RE. At that point, the urologist told me to make an appt with the RE and all my testing was completed in the first month. Had I seen the RE and had to wait 7 months to undergo any treatment, I would've probably have had to have had some of my tests redone.

If you have an appt in a month with the urologist, I'd just be patient and he'll help guide you as to when you should get your testing rolling. If your husband needs surgery, you'll have to wait at least 3 months post-surgery for him to be retested. (It takes 3 months for sperm to be generated and mature.)
