BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
How are you/have you decided on VBAC or another CS?
At first I was all for VBAC but now DH is making me nervous and thinks I should just do a CS again.
Did your doc give you the option to schedule a CS? Did they push for VBAC?
Any input would be great!
TIA

I just did my own research and decided a repeat c section was the way to go. For me, I felt the risk of a VBAC was higher than a repeat CS. I didn't even give my dr a chance to discuss it. I pretty much just went in there and said, can we talk about tying my tubes during this CS? I pretty much just made up my own mind.

I talked to OB about VBAC when I was 9 wks. He said it depends on a few different factors - baby head down, size of baby, etc. Basically he explained it as if "all the stars aligned" we could try for a VBAC.

I knew I wanted a repeat c/s after doing my research. Plus, my doc doesnt do vbacs so if I wanted to try for one I'd have to go elsewhere - she's one of the best docs in my state and I trust her 100% so c/s it was for me.

Re: BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
I had a c/s with my first. He was breech. I had no other issues that would prevent me from having a VBAC with #2. I said to my OB that it was my plan to vbac if I could and he supported me all the way. I went on to have a successful vaginal birth with #2. For me, the risks were extremely low given my first birth AND the risk associated with a repeat c/s were far more risky to me.
When I got PG with #3 last year, a v-birth was a given. However, I developed pre-eclampsia and had dangerously high blood pressure and they had to take the baby right away. Since I had a prior c/s with #1, although it was 8 years later, they couldn't induce me and I had to have a c/s with #3. It just sucked Having had the prior v-birth, having a c/s this time around was no fun.
Ultimately, you have to talk with your doctor on the reasons you had a c/s in the first place. You may not even be a candidate for a vbac. And several factors must play into it and happen for it to be successful.
best of luck to you!

BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
I'm a candidate for VBAC...already discussed it with one of the docs at my practice at me last appointment. I had a cs with DS because he was breech and we didn't try to turn him because the cord was around his neck. I'm just trying to research, get feedback from those who are in or already went through the same situation. Thanks!

I'm going for a VBAC.
Most research I've come across supports VBAC over repeat C for most healthy moms. The ACOG, which is kind of the governing body for OBs, fully supports it. My midwives are all for it in women that are candidates.

Re: BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
undecided though I doubt I am a candidate.
I plan on discussing with my doc at my 16w appt!!!
i am worried about a failed VBAC and having a section anyway. with clotting issues and an isoimmunization issue, its so complicated.
we'll see. i am pretty confident my docs will laugh when I bring it up.

Re: BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
Based on the research I've done - I feel a VBAC is a worthy option. There are risks with both, of course, but sometimes I feel like c-sections are so common that we often downplay all of the risks inherent in major abdominal surgery. But I'm admittedly also a little bit of nut in my desire to fight for another VBAC - as my DH likes to say, "you already drank the kool-aid" and it's very true.

They told me I could try for a VBAC if I wanted to, but that my chances of it being successful are slim. So I'm just going to go with another C-section.

Re: BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
When I first talked to my doc about another baby he said VBAC was an option, but he did prefer a repeat C to have a more controlled enviroment since last time was just a big scarey emergency..and I agreed.
Now that I know I am having twins..c section all the way!
There is a lot of info. that supports VBAC though..it's a very personal decision. There are many risks associated with C-sections, that you avoid with vag. birth. There is no right or wrong decision, just what is right for you

My doctor won't do VBACs.
This but prior to switching to this dr (who doesnt do vbacs) I spoke with my prior OB who did do vbacs and I wasnt the best candidate because I have big babies (nearly 10lbs) and with DS1 I didnt go into labor on my own, I had a scheduled cs on my EDD. She said we could further discuss it when I was actually pregnant, but I decided to switch practices.
For me it wasnt a big deal decision. I dont feel I missed out on anything by not having a vbirth, I had a great cs and recovery from DS1, and although the risks are low percentage, when something goes wrong on a vbac it can go terribly wrong. Not to say a cs is safe but I felt comfortable with its controlled environment and knowing that I had one before.

Re: BTDT moms that had a CS first time around...
I have a bad reaction to anesthetics so when my OB asked what I was thinking about doing I said VBAC (w/ no epi) and he said I was the perfect candidate for it. As long as this little girl decides not to sit breech like her sister did 6 years ago we're good to go!
