Work at home moms come in
I've been a SAHM for almost 4 years now and was recently approached by my old job to come back on a part time basis, 3 days a week total, 2 of the days would be from home and 1 day at the office. A part of me thnks I'm crazy not to take it since they approached me after 4 years of not working there. I haven't accepted yet but am considering it. I have two active boys, my oldest is turning 4 in the fall and my other will be 2 in a few months. My oldest will be in school 3 days a week for a couple of hours a day. How is it working from home? I'm going to have to get help when I'm working from home but my concern is when I'm home that they are going to want mommy and I'm not going to be able to get work done and they will think I'm ignoring them etc. Any advice would be great.

Re: Work at home moms come in
When I work from home with my 2 year old it is HARD. It can't be done without help- no way in hellll. I know you said you'd have help on those days, but unless you can lock yourself in a room somewhere- like an office- expect that they will be looking for you, calling for you, etc
I just find it VERY VERY hard to work from home- even with DH home to watch DD on those days- and I thought it was a great perk of my job when I was pregnant. But the reality of it is, I'd rather be in the office because I feel like I can't concentrate at all!

Re: Work at home moms come in
I WAH, and have a 5mo,, 2.5yo, and 4.5yo. My best advice is to set a schedule so that everyone (your LOs, your care provider, and especially you) get into a routine where you are expected to be working during a certain part of the day and you are not to interact with the LOs during that time. It helped me to establish a clear boundary (physically in my house) that has me "working".
Our sitter comes to our house 2-3 days/week, she gets here around 8am, and when I go to my work space (in my finished basement), I make a big deal to the LOs that I'm going to work and they'll see me later in the day. I might pop my head in on them throughout the day, but I try hard not to because I think it just confuses them. Plus, me being "away" allows me to focus better on my work and the sitter knows that she is in charge when I'm at work. Takes adjusting, but it's great to leave your work day and have a 10-second commute to see your DCs!
