If you have a little one and have gone away without them please come in!

My DH has a 4 day business trip in Vegas coming up in a few months and he keeps asking me to come. Part of me wants to go, but them the other half doesn't want to leave DS. DS is 2, we have never left him for more than a few hours and he has never slept out without us. The thought of leaving him is actually giving me extreme anxiety! I would rather him stay with my parents, but we would probably let the grandparents switch off- 2 days with his parents, 2 with mine (to save ourselves the drama) He would be in good hands, but still the thought of it just makes me feel terrible. He is such a mama's boy and I just picture him crying for me and not being able to console him. I'm not sure what I'm really asking here, just hoping for some people who have BTDT to give some advice I guess!

If you havent done it yet, its going to be like ripping off a bandaid! Just do it and do it fast!

You and DH have to have alone time to keep the marriage strong for your kids- leaving them alone for a night, weekend or week will be better for them.

My kids love staying with our parents- and DH and I love the alone time.

I'm not saying its easy to leave them but its worth it.

I agree with pp.

I have left DS 1 overnight a few times - for weddings, business trips, girls trips and a trip with just DH and I. Although I missed him terribly, it is refreshing to get away and just think about you for awhile.

I'm leaving ds 2 overnight for a business trip next week and im looking forward to it.

Go!!!'. I went on a business trip when DS was 12 weeks and then we went to a wedding without him at 5 months. He was fine. I never looked back once I made those trips. There will be times you will need to leave your kids with someone. Better off doing it earlier

I'm glad you asked this because I've been feeling guilty at the thought of wanting to go away alone with DS... he's only 1, but we could really use one of our little getaways.

I would suggest you try leaving him at your parents for a night REALLY soon as a trial. Then, in the coming weeks, try 2 nights at your in-laws. That way nothing you do while in Vegas will be a new experience for either of you. He might like the sleepovers!

I would also maybe bring him a little present each time you come back to him so he has something to look forward to when u get back from Vegas! Chat Icon

It makes me feel like an independent woman again. The first time DD was 6 months for a bachelorette party in Saratoga, this Friday I leave for another bach party in New Orleans. I will miss her dearly but can't wait for me time. It's hard leading up to the first time but when you go your like ahhhhh this is great

you should def go.
we go away for a day or two every once in a while.
i absolutely get horrendous anxiety about it. i make a bullet point list of her schedule and any relevant notes. it prob comes off a tad anal but i dont care one bit. we skype with her (shes 14m) and in the end, they really are fine. she's always done absolutely great when she sleeps out.
i always feel better once we are actually away, its just thinking about it, leading up to it, and actually going are the worst. once we are gone it starts to feel like it did before we had kids, and it feels nice to get that back for just a short amount of time.
it def is like ripping off a bandaid!!

If DH wants you to go, you should definitely go! I think it's important to reconnect as husband & wife whenever possible. It's so easy to get lost in the mom & dad roles.

Your DS will have a blast!

Re: If you have a little one and have gone away without them please come in!

We did it 2x with only DS1. He was 10m the first time we were away for a week approx. the second time was a long weekend when he was 2.5yo.

The first time I was a mess leading up to it! But it was great! And honestly we had limited contact with home due to our location (cell service was horrible and there was no computers and limited regular phones at our resort)

Second time I had no reservations going and we had a blast.
Both times were for OOT weddings.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go away now and would have no reservations about leaving my kids. However I am not sure anyone can handle my DS2. So its no in the cards right now!

I say go. Enjoy yourself I think its so important to set special time aside for your marriage. And I think tis great for grandparents to get some good bonding time with the grandkids. I didnt really have grandparents growing up and I love that my kids will have such strong/fond memories of special times with their grandparents! I say if they are willing to take your DC GO GO GO!!!!!

Definitely go! DH went away for 5 days with DS this past may and while I was so worried about it, he had a great time with grandma and grandpa and we had a great time with each other. It was amazing to focus on us for a couple of days and we did facetime with DS each night.

I can totally relate! We are going to st Lucia for BIL wedding in march. We just booked our tickets and I started crying. Even dh feels down about leaving the girls who will be 2.5 and 9 months when we go. My biggest fears are they cry and miss us, something happens to us or them and we can't get home quickly. I really want to have some alone time with dh but I can't help but to be sad thinking about not seeing them for 4 days. Everyone says once we are there we will be fine. I know deep down my girls will be fine because they will be with my mom. I just have to get over my fears.

I totally agree with this...... Try a night at your parents, and a night at your inlaws......

We went I think it was a 2 night trip to AC, and left ds with inlaws - who he was most familiar with. He was like 1 1/2 and was a bit confused when he woke up to see them- but otherwise fine with them..If you have any rules -don't assume - you need to set them - as ds was taken to relatives that he never should have been when we were away and it was sad to hear that he was freaked out by the relatives without us being there for him...
