Kids relationship with daddy
I recently learned my husband is dealing with depression, not severe or anything but he is taking meds for it now. I'm not familiar with how it causes people to act but I'm trying to learn now. Since finding out I noticedin the past months that he is short and gets easily frustrated with our toddler. I don't think its fair he does that and I call him out on it and he gets defensive or argues with me and I dont want to argue either. He has always been asuch a good dad being hands on all thetime and he stilli sometimes but I also see him being short and gets easily frustrated when our kid argues or debates with him. Sometimes Ifeel like he has no idea what toddlers do and what is normal and he overreacts. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Is he seeing someone to talk about his feelings? That is crucial in addition to being on anti depressants. It's not just as simple as taking a pill and it goes away. If he is seeing someone, schedule a session where u go alone and talk about this to the therapist.
Depression causes mood swings and irritability. It's not always tiredness and sadness. Hugs to you and your family. <3

A question for you, are you sure he wasn't always like this? Is it possible that maybe you're being more critical and keeping a closer eye in things now? If that's definitely not the case, then talk to him about it. Not in the moment, but when your DC has gone to bed. Just mention that you feel he needs to lighten up. That you understand DC can be challenging at times, but him getting frustrated isn't going to help or accomplish anything.

Re: Kids relationship with daddy
i do know of a family who is/was going through this, and since they started family therapy, the dad has learned a lot about himself and what triggers the reactions & responses, and with learning about himself, he is learning about his kids and how it's affecting them as well.
meds help, but from what i've seen, it's therapy that helps shape new coping skills to carry with you.

I agree at least individual therapy, and/or family therapy can help with all of this. It impacts the whole family.
