Butterflies and Birds! Exhibit

Just saw this on Groupon.

$6 for Butterflies and Birds! Exhibit Visit ($12.50 Value)

I had no idea they had this on LI! Last one I was at was the American Museum of Natural History.

For those thinking of going & wanting photo ops, we were told at AMNH that they are attracted to citrus. So any kid with a drop of orange juice on them or anyone wearing citric purfume be prepared they may come by you.

The Long Island Exhibition Center's Butterflies and Birds! exhibit showcases a colorful company of lepidopterans hailing from such far-flung regions as East Africa and Southeast Asia. Wander across stone walkways and up spiral staircases laced in winding vines to catch glimpses of colorful winged creatures, some of whom may even chance a brief landing on a shoulder or a hat shaped like a 24-hour nectar diner. Besides insects, the exhibit also grants close encounters with parrots in the aviary. Covering almost 5,000 square feet, the tropical garden fills the air with the heady scent of exotic flowers and leafy trees as visitors learn about the natural world through hands-on experiences.

Butterflies and Birds! Exhibit

I got this today too. We went to the Aquarium in Riverhead a few weeks ago and chose not to do this exhibit. I wish I would have looking back. DS would have loved to watch the butterflies fly around him, but for some reason I didn't think he would at the time.

Any age is fine. We went the other day, and I thought it was just okay. The butterflies were pretty though. There is a bird area too, and the birds are pretty, but again, just okay IMO. We are members at the aquarium, and I didn't feel like it was worth upgrading the membership to include that part.

Would you say it would be worth it for $6pp?

We are memebers also and have this in our membership. Honestly, we go to the aquarium probably once a month, or once every other month. We spend the first 20-30 minutes in with the butterflies and birds. It is kept very warm in there I believe like 80 for the butterflies so it's very hot and humid. I can't handle more than 20-30 minutes in there. It's beautliful, they're are tons of different butterflies and moths flying around you.
IMO, if your going to do the aquarium also it's a good deal or if your looking for something to do for a little while it's also ok. But to go there just for that it might be a little disappointing, especially if your not from the area and traveled far for it.
