13 months...no talking
DD2 isnt saying anything except "hi". DD1 was using words for everything at 13 months. When is it time to be concerned? Not even momma or dada. She says "dadadadada" but indirectly.

Re: 13 months...no talking
I know its hard but you can't compare. I am guilty of it too, but we as parents have to almost treat each child as if he/she is our first.
Anyway, I too mentioned lack of words to my ped when DS was 12m. At that age he said Dada (maybe daddy can't recall) and nonna (my MIL). that was basically it. He had very little babbling etc.
But in terms of motor skills he was all over hte place, climbing things, walking, running etc.
My ped said no worries it was early and many babies who are so focused on fine motor skills tend to pick up the talking later.
Well, we just had our 15m appt and DS now has 15-20 words he says all the time, including word combinations (good girl, Lucy) and every day its something new.
IMO its to early to even think about worrying until 18-20m.
GL!

Re: 13 months...no talking
My DD did not speak at that age either. She understood everything but only said a handful of words and not consistently. Even at 18 months I had some trouble thinking of 10 words she was saying. A couple of weeks after her 18 month doc appt she had a word explosion! Now at 23 months she says more words than I can count, repeats everything, makes sentences.. she doesn't shut up! lol So I wouldn't worry at 13 months.

Re: 13 months...no talking
My ds is 12 months and doesn't say anything. He babbles a lot and babbles da da and Mem Mem (mom?) but I don't think he knows what it means. I know a lot of people with babies well over a year that don't talk so I think it's too early!!

Re: 13 months...no talking
DS is my 1st but I read a lot about development and was concerned that he didn't have many words. Now at 20 months he is finally starting to speak. He has about 15 words. BUT he understand EVERYTHING. After speak with his ped we both decided that because he is understanding directions we will not do anything now. We are confident that he will speak soon. We will reevaluate at 2 yrs.

Re: 13 months...no talking
DD didn't say much until almost 15 months. She said dada and started calling me "nana" buy that was it. About a week befor 15 mos, she started saying Stewie, our dog's name, and baby. Then she exploded from there. At 18 months, I lost count of her words. Don't worry--it's pretty normal at that age.
