Would you be upset? SLP related
DS was/is receiving speech. He was not cooperative during evals and didn't test well so he got speech but it turns out he was just a very late talker (he didn't talk to his SLP's either!)
Anyway, I along with the SLP and coordinator decided to stop services even though he doesn't test well since he clearly doesn't need services (speaks in up to 10 word compound sentences, in 2 languages). Fine.
It was agreed however that we would continue with 45mins 1 x week just for 1 month so that termination wouldn't be so sudden and the SLP and DS could have closure.
So, 1st time SLP was coming just the 1 time, she had a family emergency but didn't notify me and I told DS she was coming and then she didn't. When I contact her to confirm the next session (3 days prior) she informs me that she no longer has the time slot available, a new case started earlier than expected AND took over not only DS' slot but all other normal available slots. WTF!!!!!! She has like 8AM available, DS isn't up at 8 or 6PM, dinner time - no!
Now, part of me is upset bc I feel like DS was an existing case and she should have tried to keep his slot for the next 3 weeks but on the otherhand I know DS doesn't need the services so it doesn't hurt him that she's not coming (did he need svs I would flip out). I guess there will be no termination then since the new times don't work, I'll just explain it to DS.
Would you be upset? Would you say something about it to SLP about it when letting her the times won't work and that we'll just terminate suddenly? Not sure how to feel.
ETA: He did come around and start talking to this SLP. He actually trusted her and got close to her, that's why it bothers me.

If he wasn't talking to the SLP/cooperating, and isn't in need of the services, then no I would not be mad. It was your decision along with the SLP to end it. It is a waste of everyones time to continue with sessions if they aren't needed. Those sessions went to a kid that actually needs the help.

Yes, I would be very upset. Especially because of the way she handled it (or actually didn't handle it!). If she had this new case, there is no reason she couldn't have called and said "Listen, I have a new case that is going to start earlier than planned, so I won't be able to finish out a whole month. But let's do one more session next week so I can terminate with him." It's not ok for someone to just disappear out of a child's life like that with no warning.

I'm not a BTDT person but maybe make a big deal that he's done - like ballons and cake. Maybe he won't even miss her if he gets a little party or toy?

I understand why you would be upset and I am sure I would be annoyed also. On the other hand, as an SLP, contracted work isn't always easy to come by and I am sure she needs to keep her caseload steady. No session = no pay. If another case came along that was going to last a longer time then I can see why she financially would probbaly have to take it. Congrats on DS getting out of speech!!!

I understand why you are upset but they therapist needs to spend her time with kids who need the theraphy and those time slots fill up quickly.

Exactly this! You put into words what I am feeling. One last session would have made me feel better about the whole thing. I hate that my son trusted someone (and he's typically very slow to warm up to people) and that person is just disappearing. It's not like he will really understand why she's not coming back and in essence disappearing.
It bothers me that she didn't extend my son the courtesy of one last session.
As for giving other children who need it the time, obviously I'm not oblivious or insensitive to this as I was the one who suggested that we stop before the next ISFP considering that he is speaking in full, long complex sentences.

Regardless of "feelings" it was very unprofessional of her and yes, I would be upset. If you had an agreement, she should have stuck to it, end of story.

Yes, I'd be upset, but, at the same time, your DS is leaving and she probably got offered another student.
They do not get paid for sessions that are cancelled, fired from, etc.
She should have given him one more session to say "goodbye". That was rude on her part. She also could have called you and said "I Picked up another child....". She did offer you two time slots. I would have told her, come at 8AM for one last session.
