Buying a car

If you wanted something more adventurous than a station wagon, smaller than an SUV, and super safe, especially in bad weather, what would you buy?

Not a minivan
Under 30k

ETA: Are these technically called "crossovers"? Something in the CRV/Suburu neighborhood?

Re: Buying a car

we are looking at the kia sorrento, highlander and pilot bc we need a third row seat with the twins/grandparents etc.

but before we knew it was twins, we were looking at the prius v, CRV and Rav 4. not sure how the prius v is in bad weather or the price though.

we currently have a matrix and i absolutely love it. never had a problem with bad weather even though it doesnt have 4wd (we got the only year they didnt make it). i'd highly recommend that too.

Re: Buying a car

We were kind of looking for something similar...we got a Nissan Murano, which is technically the same size as a Maxima (so not SUV huge) but with more cargo space. We love it!

I think Subaru has a wagon-y hybrid type, also they are 4 wheel drive and I don't think that expensive.

Re: Buying a car

Honda Crosstour? I believe they have 4WD and it's a cross between a sedan and an SUV.

we just got a mazda cx9, while it was more than 30k (not much), the lower model is 28k i believe. It is an awesome crossover. Def look into it!

The Volvo xc70 would meet all of your requirements except it's slightly over $30K. I bet you could get a great preowned one.

I was going to suggest this. I've seen them on the road but not up close. I think they look good and slightly different.

Subaru now has a new model XV, which I'm looking to buy maybe next yr. Just done with my 5 yr financing for Honda Fit and wanna enjoy the extra $$ in my pocket so I'm waiting it out. DH has a Subaru Forester and we both love it and will be sticking with the Subaru family

Re: Buying a car

Ours is outside of the price range, but it's a small SUV and we LOVE IT!!! I'm SURE that the other car companies make small SUVs to compete with each other. Mine is the BMW X3 and technically it's an SUV, not a crossover.... but I'm petite (5') and very comfortable driving it. We hope to make this our family car..... although if we end up having more than 2 kids down the line I could see needing something bigger. Right now we have none so it's more than enough!! Chat Icon
