Throwing a Work Shower for a Co-worker

Crashing-

My co-worker is 20 weeks pregnant, and is finding out the sex of the baby today! My manager and I were discussing throwing her a work shower. It's just the 3 of us in our company, plus about 6 other people who work for the company we rent our office space from (they come in frequently to chat with us, so we'd include them in the party).

So my 1st question is when should we throw this for her? She's due September 25, but says she feels she may go early as it's pretty common for her and her DH's family. I was thinking maybe the end of June or middle of July or is that way too soon?

Also, what type of food should we get? My manager thought maybe ordering a 3 foot hero, but I've heard that pregnant women should'nt have cold cuts, and I've never seen her eat any. I was also going to make a cheese and crackers plate, as well as cookies and cupcakes. Any ideas of other options?

As for gifts, I saw this cute "Mommy's Time Out Cup" wine glass that I have to get her (she's a big wino), but what else?

Thanks so much for reading this far, and hopefully I can join you ladies soon Chat Icon

Thats really sweet that your office is planning on throwing her a shower.

Pregnant ladies should not eat coldcuts but if you have a veggie option for her or something that is cooked like meatballs, chicken breast she should be fine with that.

would you consider doing a fruit or veggie platter?

OH and I think late june or July is a good time since you think she might leave early.

Early July would be good.

I say no to the heroes. I also do not eat cold cuts now that I am pregnant. Also be careful with the cheese platter- make sure everything you get is a harder, pasteurized cheese. No fresh mozzarella, brie, gorgonzola, blue cheese.

I would recommend a fruit platter and maybe a salad (if you are still doing heroes). Or maybe instead of the heroes, can you do one or two hot dishes, like a pasta dish and meatballs on the side or something?

I never knew about the cheese. Good thing I posted this here lol. Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I'll run this by my manager. He's thinking about taking us all out for lunch instead, or just ordering from the local deli.

I agree with the other ladies about the cold cuts ~ maybe more of a vegy platter, muffins.

They also sell mommy's time out wine to go with your wine glass (so cute ~ I would love that)

here is what the wine looks like:

Fresh mozzarella made in this country is pasteurized so your allowed to eat it.

As long as the cheese is pasteurized shes fine. BUT she may be a cautious person so you may just want to altogether avoid the cheese platter.
