tearing or cutting...omg..
i just cant even imagine what that pain is and i think i am even more scared of cutting...i mean i just cant fathom the pain of having someone just cut you down there just like that. im imagining its a scene like in those old movies where someone has be wouned and an immediate cut needs to be made and the person is just screaming screaming...
lol, dont laugh im only 7 weeks, but still..the reality of it is there.

Re: omg my worst fear..
I had to get cut and didnt feel it at all
Doc sprayed me with numbing spray, waited a few minutes then did it. I never felt a thing. Im thinking it would have been worse to tear.

Re: omg my worst fear..
My husband was SOOOOOOOOO scared of me getting cut! It was like his #2 priority (after a v-birth) of what he wanted if he could control anything with the delivery -- don't cut me! I thought it was pretty funny he felt that way.
Well, an hour and a half pushing and DD's head was STUCK. I mean STUCK. At the end when they're crowning, you have what it sometimes referred to as the "ring of fire" -- basically a burning sensation that lets you know you're being stretched to the max down there. It makes the entire opening completely numb because it's stretched out. When my OB said "I think a cut is what we need" I said to ask my husband because at that point I wasn't really in any position to decide. (Did I mention I went drugs free... on purpose!) Anyway, at that point my husband agreed.
Apparently, the OB made a small cut and then enlarged it slightly (like 1/2 an inch, then made it an inch cut). I didn't feel the cut at all. DD came barreling out, tearing me upwards in a V shape with two second-degree tears. I didn't feel the tearing. All I felt was complete and utter joy that (1) my daughter was HERE, moments later in my arms and (2) I was done delivering her!!!!
I did feel the OB stitching me back up. He used some local anesthetic to numb the area during the stitching. The delivery of the placenta was more annoying/painful than the stitching, although it did hurt a bit. Nothing like labor though lol.
The recovery from the cut was nothing. The recovery from the tear was annoying. If you have a choice between a cut and a tear, take the cut!!!!! They can stitch it up perfectly neat. If you tear, it can go ANYWHERE. I had to take some baths in epsom salts for a few weeks after DD was born (kinda gross when you're still bleeding, but cmon, what about childbirth isn't "gross" lol). They gave me ice diapers (basically diapers filled with ice to put inside my undies with the maxi pads) while I was in the hospital. By the time I got home, I didn't need the ice anymore (so within 2 days).
So, there's my story... don't be afraid of the cut. Don't even be afraid of the tear! It's all just a part of having a baby and you'll recover from it all.

I also had to be cut, and I didn't feel it. I didn't even know it happened until afterwards, when the Dr said I needed a few stitches.

Re: omg my worst fear..
If you're planning on getting an epi you won't even know what's going on. I had a last minute episiotomy and needed forceps and at that point I was so tired pf pushing and numb anyway I was like...do what you gotta do to get this child out of me!
I'm more scared of tearing!

Re: omg my worst fear..
Don't think about it!! I actually "tore" and apparently my midwife said it was a "good tear" whatever that it - but it was fine! You are so drugged (maybe) and tired that you really don't care. And the recovery is nothing you can't handle. I remember it's like 2 weeks of ouchiness, but after that, you are good!! Don't worry! Let the docs handle everything and just relax! You will be fine!

Re: omg my worst fear..
Try not to worry about it now. With DS I tore and had no idea I only felt the stitches after when the doc told me. I was too busy looking at my DS to even notice what they were telling me.
