HSG: How much does it really hurt?
Hey ladies -
I'm having my HSG procedure tomorrow. I'm getting mixed info about how much it really hurts.
What's been your experience?

I just had mine done about a week ago at Zwanger. It was really quick, I took 2 aleve an hour before. It was uncomfortable like a regular pap smear while they insert the catheter. I got alot of bad cramping when they injected the dye, but it only took like a minute or so and it was over. After that I had a some sharp cramps that came and went quick through the rest of the day.
Honestly... it was not that bad, I promise!

Here's my experience....it didn't actually hurt during the procedure. It was afterwards, like 3 hours later, that I started getting HORRIBLE cramps. The cramps lasted all night and the next day. Then by the 3rd day it turned into soreness, then by the 4th day it was gone and I was back to normal.
I went to the dr and he said it was a bad reaction to the dye
This is just my experience though, I have heard plenty of women say that had no pain whatsoever. It really depends on the person. Good luck!

It's honestly not bad at all. I had one really bad cramp while they were doing it but it was bearable.

Mine did not hurt at all. I think a lot of it has to do with if you have a blockage and the person performing the test.

i took 2 advil about an hour before my HSG and it was okay for me. No pain and i had blockages in both tubes. This was one of my first tests i did after seeing a RE so i was nervous and scared of what this test would tell me.
it lasted a few mins and i had a few cramps later that day.

This! but i didn't have any sharp cramps at all after the exam was over

Its not bad at all and its over quickly. I had a blocked tube and it still didnt make it bad. Good luck !!!

I did it at 1:30 and went home after. I probably could have gone back to work... oh well!

Bah, that was horrible. I think more emotionally than physically. Of course I cried at the doctor's office, but now I mainly just feel like I have really bad cramps. Sigh.

were your tubes cleared???
I cried too if it makes you feel any better.. I was very emotional, but i also had found out about my elevated FSH a couple days before.

I cried too if it makes you feel any better.. I was very emotional, but i also had found out about my elevated FSH a couple days before.
The doctor performing the procedure was not my regular doctor, so he said he will send the results over later this afternoon, so we'll see what the results are.
Hopefully it all works out! Doesn't make me feel better that you cried, but glad to hear that others felt the same way

Mine did not hurt at all. No cramping. I took either 2 or 4 advil beforehand - I do not remember what they recommended.

Agreed...it was pretty crappy! I did not cry, but i was shaking like a leaf. My tubes are clear, so I feel a little better. Hope you get good news...
