Guiliana and Bill
I love this show and this couple. I am so happy for them and glad that they let the world experience their journey to be parents. Hopefully they will have a healthy baby this summer.
That being said...did it bother anyone that they kept saying they are going to implant their embryos into their gestational carrier?
I am only asking because going through treatments myself, people could never understand why my IVF didn't work. I often got "well didn't they implant the embryos?"
I always had to say that they TRANSFERRED the embryos and hopefully they will implant.
This might be a silly question or post, but it just bothered me that they did such a beautiful job explaining their journey and showing what we all go through and then they said this.
Anyway... just curious if anyone else feels the same way I do.

Re: Guiliana and Bill
Well, I noticed something a little different that I thought was odd. They had to emphasize that it is not a surrogate, it is a gestational carrier. I am pretty sure that is the exact same thing.

Re: Guiliana and Bill
When I heard that term I was curious so I googled the difference and this is what infertilityweb.com said:
On the Oprah show that aired October 9 2007 describing “A Womb for Rent”, the term Surrogacy was used to describe the practice of using another woman’s uterus (womb) to carry an unrelated couple’s pregnancy. Today, the term Gestational Carrier is the more appropriate term to describe this arrangement. Because of the invention of in vitro fertilization (IVF), an embryo from one couple can be implanted and carried to term by an unrelated woman, the Gestational Carrier. In this arrangement, the carrier is not genetically related to the child. A physician usually recommends the use of a Gestational Carrier if the genetic mother has normal ovaries but lacks a uterus, has a congenital abnormality of the uterus, has a history of pregnancy losses or a medical contraindication to pregnancy (pregnancy would be life threatening).
The term surrogate is used less often, because it implies traditional surrogacy in which a woman is inseminated with the sperm of a man who is not her partner to conceive and carry a child for this man and his partner. In this form of surrogacy, the woman is giving up her own genetic child to the other couple. The biological father and partner then adopt the child after birth.
I think they are the same thing...

They are not the same. My DH and I are in the process of gestational surrogacy (a gestational carrier). We are transferring our own embryos (made from my egg and his sperm).
In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate's egg is used- not the intended parent's.

Re: Guiliana and Bill
Correct me if I am wrong. I don't think the op was debating surrogate vs gestational carrier. I think she was saying when any ivf happens the embryos are placved in a uterus with HOPE of implanting but on the show they only said implant which is misleading. Personally I didn't notice it but if so its little things that confuse the public and lead to misinformation

It wasn't the OP, but the 2nd poster who brought up the surrogate vs. gestational carrier.

Yes this is what I was talking about
And again I do love this show and this couple and I am super happy for them. I was just commenting on the words they used. I guess I just get frustrated sometimes because people could never understand why I couldn't get pregnant when they "implanted" the embryos.

Re: Guiliana and Bill
it kind of irks me that they don't get the terminology right (transfer vs implant); it's just a pet peeve of mine.
