Does anyone own or rent a house in Queens?
We are looking to rent a house and found something we like. It's a 3 bedroom ranch with a basement. I would love to know what the utility bills- heat, gas, electricity, water- would come to for something like that?

Re: Does anyone own or rent a house in Queens?
we have a 2 bedroom in suffolk - my mother lives in bklyn and we pay pretty much the same even though her house is bigger than mine except for water - my water bill is nothing compared to hers
heating i pay about 300-400 in oil during winter months (she pays the same for her gas ) (we both have electric appliances so this is just for heating the house and hot water)
electric 300 a month (I'm on a budget - have a pool and spa so i pay the same every month instead of getting hit with 1000 bills during the summer months) (thats pretty much the same as what my mother pays)
water for me is really cheap prob 40 - i also have well water that i use for sprinkler and outside cleaning so that saves me on the water bill. my mother told me she gets charged the sewer charge plus her water usage.
not exactly answering your question but its a roundabout price.

I live in queens, it's a two bedroom apt.
Gas $17.00 (I don't cook much) Elec $124.00 (I have the level billing) Cable, Phone, & internet $109 (time warner)
heat and water is included in my rent so I don't know how much they are.

Re: Does anyone own or rent a house in Queens?
Our old 2 bedroom appt was all electric (no gas) the winter electric bill was brutal because of the heat ($300-$400) summer was around $150-$200.
Timewarner was around $170 for triple play basic cable.
We did not have to pay for water

Re: Does anyone own or rent a house in Queens?
A lot can depend on the type of heat they have, the age of the system (how updated/efficient it is), etc.
Why don't you ask the landlord if you could see the utility bills for the past few months to get an idea? If the house is currently occupied by tenants, they may let you see their bills. They may not, but it's not an unreasonable thing to ask. (Or if you have an agent, maybe they can make the request for you). They are always going to tell you it depends on how you live (how warm/cold you like it, how many electronics you have, if you leave the lights on, etc.), but at least you get a rough estimate of the costs.

It all depends. I pay the utility bills on my mom's house
Gas (heating both floors of a 2 family) $240 month (balanced billing) Electric - For the 1st floor apartment, basement, hallway, and exterior lights $150 per month Water- It's outrageous, like $400/mo

Re: Does anyone own or rent a house in Queens?
We own a two-family. We pay for the electric solely for the first floor and basement; gas is for the entire house, as is water.
Generally, it looks like this:
Electric: about $45/month; during July and August it rises to about $70/month due to use of the air conditioners.
Gas: is on a balanced billing plan - I think it's about $130/month (it's primarily DH's responsibility)
Water: $150-ish every three months. It used to be $400 every three months but we gave some tenants the big ol' BOOT and have non-wasteful tenants now.
We use DirecTV for television(~$50/month) and are switching to FIOS for internet (~$55/month) in a few weeks. We'd switch to FIOS for TV as well but are only a few months into our contract so it would cost a lot to get out of it. Which is totally fine with me, because DirecTV has been nothing but awesome since the day we signed up with them. We have no home phone.
Time Warner has been up our butts begging us to come back to them ever since we made the switch...it's only going to get more pathetic once we cancel our internet service with them
