Anyone read.....
Did anyone read the article on MSNBC today saying that the risk of birth defects is higher in IVF babies. We just made the decision to do it.....now I'm totally freaked out. Did anyone consider this before doing it?

Re: Anyone read.....
I didn't read this specific article but I've read other similar ones. I don't necessarily believe it and many drs don't either.
The thought is that people who have to use IVF already have some underlying medical issues and are therefore, generally less healthy than the average person, which may be the true reason behind the birth defects - not the procedure itself.
Hope this makes sense.

Re: Anyone read.....
The stats are increased yes. But the chances are still low. For example for certain defects, there may be a 1% chance... with IVF it might increase to 1.5% so does it go up, yes... but its still a low risk. My dr discussed this with me at length and ultimately you have to decide if its the right choice for you. Wishing you the best...

And yes, this is one of the reasons why!

I would also think that there is a smaller sample size so the results would be skewed.

this basically, but i know more than a handful of women, not including the several here who have already had children through IVF and all of their children are happy & healthy today
