Closed uterus
I went yesterday for an hsg and they were unable to do it. They said they could not get the catheter in my uterus. Any one have a similar story? Of course my regular drs office is closed til Monday so until then I will be driving my self crazy.

Re: Closed uterus
when I had my HSG they had to use a very small catheter. I don't think your uterus is closed....maybe cervix but most likely they needed to use a smaller cath and didnt have one. The Dr that did mine said lots of women need the small one and most places don't have them on hand.

Re: Closed uterus
Yeah, its your cervix. This happens to me sometimes. I have had some horrible problems with it. 1st HSG no problem. 2nd HSG the guy didn't do them all that much anymore, wasn't familiar with the room (or where the small stuff was) and I was spread eagle for about 25 minutes and he eventually got it done (should take no longer than 5 minutes). That was the first time it happened to me. And I was about to start an IVF cycle and they wouldn't do it unless I got this done. So, I got really upset, but the guy didn't want to hurt me, so he was afraid to push it through. My 3rd HSG (my story is long and so far not a happy one) my RE did it from Cornell. Very experienced and he had no problems what so ever. And I got myself all worked up with anticipating problems. Your cervix, I am told, changes with your hormones. Hopefully that is your issue too. I did have cryosurgery a few years ago and I keep asking if that is related but they keep telling me no. I'm sure they are going to want to go in there with a scope to see whats up. So they may suggest a hysteroscopy. Some docs do this in office and others do it in the hospital and put you out (my preferred method...lol). And just for the record I never had any issues with any of the IUI's or ET's I have done (smaller catheter used).
Who did the HSG? did you go to a radiologist?

Re: Closed uterus
Yes I was in a radiologists office. He tried and tried but wasnt able to get it. I have had many many urinary tract infections but don't know if that has any correlation. The radiologist did ask if I had had any surgeries or procedures in that area also.

Re: Closed uterus update
You ladies were correct. It was a tight cervix not a closed uterus like the dr performing the test said. After speaking with my regular gyno he recommended I get a laparoscopy, which I had done yesterday. He found that my right tube is no good and the other one is not too great either (unable to get much, if any dye in) and said we are good candidates for ivf. I have to speak with him Monday since he gave all the info to my husband. I have so many questions and wish his office was open today.

Re: Closed uterus
Just so you know, if your uterus is an issue with transfer (and they should do a mock transfer to make sure catheter gets in before the actual start of your cycle or at least b/f trigger shot to make you ovulate) they can do it with anesthesia, so you don't have any stress related to it. I now get valium, so I don't think about it. Its very nice
Yeah, every time I go in for a transfer the RE on duty always asks me if I had any surgery. And I'm like NOOOOOO! Why are you saying that?
I do know that after you ovulate and everything gets soft and fluffy that its much easier to get a catheter through.
Other than the tubes, they didn't find anything else? At least you got some answers, though sometimes when fluid can't get through the tubes it might not mean anything except that the tube reacted from liquid coming in.
I say this because I got pregnant (followed by m/c ) right after my 1st HSG (only time I have ever been pregnant really) and the results said the right tube was blocked. But, I ovulated on the right side that month. And later HSG's show no blockage. And yes I did try again after those HSG's but nothing.
