Overwhelmed
Well long story short. I grad. from my RE at 11 weeks and have been going to my OB and now just started with Dr. Kofinas as well. I know in the beginning its always a lot when you go somewhere new, and its overwhelming...but I have to go for more tests and my placenta is "damaged" from my thrombo issues, which he said is not a big deal and is common, and can be fixed.. but still I just want to be "normal"...baby is good tho and I seem to be OK, just needed to vent
Thanks ladies...

Re: Overwhelmed
I totally understand...when I was pg, all I ever wanted was to hear everything looks great, just like most people did. It was never easy, but the beginning was the worst. Hang in there!

Re: Overwhelmed
Literally in the same emotional place as you. Although my bloodwork says my placenta is "damaged,' he says that my bloods don't match my sono pics. I started crying when I was there on Mon and he tried to calm me down and put my mind at ease by showing me some improvements. It's a lot, all the repeat testing, shots, long sonos but, I'm grateful to have his genius and be in his care. Day by day.

Re: Overwhelmed
okay i am 37 weeks today and i saw kofinas at 11 weeks thinking...just to double check kiwm?
all i remember is he walks in after my sono ( we never really talked before) and i hear him pointing out to the tech...damage there..damage there damage there damage there!!
andi literally almost pooped on the chair and was beyond scared. he explained that i needed more blood work to confirm what he saw ( already knew about mthfr and was on baby aspirin and metanx) but that i needed lovenox for sure.
so after all the blood it showed i had multiple additional thrombo issues and the treatment was lovenox.
but i remember crying my eyes out bc i was like reallllllllllllllllllllllllllly? i made it through ivf etcetcetc and now this??????????????????
but please please please hear this.. i thank god every single damn day i see kofinas. i had placenta previa and its gone now. my placenta and blood flow has been amazing and totally repaired itself. he treated my thyroid issues that popped us this pg and screened me early for gd.
i am at the tailend of this preg ( 2 more weeks to go) and in a way i am blessed to have needed to see him bc i felt and feel sooo cared for and i truly think without him and his office i would be in the mental ward and who knows how the baby would be.
try to breathe. it is super overwhelming in the beginning but i swear you will sooo look forward to his appointments really soon!!!

Re: Overwhelmed
You are in very good hands with Dr Kofinas and his staff. They are all really amazing and will do everything and anything to make sure the baby is taken care of in utero.

Thank you for this. This is totally how I felt yesterday...Going in for another check and all will be ok...and BAM! Ugh, well onto more tests and screenings. I have heard so many great things about him, and really appreciate your comment. It has put me at ease a bit....good luck to you on the last 2 weeks...how exciting!!

Re: Overwhelmed
I think a lot of IF/IVF patients also have pregnancy issues.
I was always told I had minor thrombo issues and they didnt even put me on lovenox right away then it was just a low dose.
Now I had bleeding from placenta previa and they are retesting thrombo based on my original workup and because they said my lovenox dose is too low. They never said the words "damaged placenta" to me, but I'm not sure what that is. My OB did say there was a small issue with it in one area but Kofinas didn't mention it. I'm very glad I'm seeing Kofinas every 2 weeks because it eases my mind having sonos so often and knowing Im being watched so closely.

Re: Overwhelmed
i never saw Kofinas but i am 1000% sure if i had he would've said i had a terrible horrible no-good very bad placenta !!
but seriously, at 32w i developed pre-e and HELLP syndrome. there's no official "reason" for getting them, but there has been research that links it to clotting issues, specifically PAI-1 polymorphisms which i have. when i was admitted to the hospital on bedrest i was told that i had placental disease, the baby was IUGR and about 2 weeks behind in size, and I had borderline low amniotic fluid. every bit of that was news to me. i had a growth sono days before at my OB and he said NOTHING about the size being an issue or the fluid, although he was the one that made me do the 24-hour urine collection that ultimately sent me to the hospital in the first place.
anyway for those of you that don't know the story (if theres anyone left on this board that doesn't ) when they went in to do my emergency c-section (i was already under general anesthesia due to the pre-e and HELLP) they found out i had placenta accreta (where the placenta is grown into the uterus and attached). so im not sure if that is what caused the issue with IUGR or if there was any relation between the accreta and the pre-e and HELLP symptoms (I never really developed high BP, just a ton of protein in the urine and swelling). ive never seen Kofinas but i assume someone like him would have caught the accreta on sono since he is supposedly a placenta expert - even though the MFM at LIJ who did my sono when i was admitted, did not see it. anyway usually the cure for accreta is a hysterectomy but they were able to save my uterus although i lost half of my blood volume and needed a bunch of transfusions among other things.
only telling the story again to point out another IVFer with "placental issues" although i'm certain my issues were far more severe than most.

I guess it is common. I am happy I am seeing him as he seems really knowledgeable and I heard great things. Its just hard to enjoy this pregnancy when yesterday I had to have another 22 vials of blood taken. My OB did not mention anything about my placenta issues either. I am sure this is all going to be worth it in the end. Just been a long road...
