could be hazel or blue, wouldn't rule it out completely! My sis has brown eyes (our parents have brown eyes) and her DH has hazel-greenish eyes (his parents have blue and hazel eyes) and 1 of her DD's has hazel eyes and the other blue. So you never know!

Re: BROWN OR BLUE

Ha, I wonder this as well.

I have brown eyes, DH has blue eyes.

My mom has green eyes, my dad has brown eyes. My brother has green eyes and my sister has brown eyes.

DH's mom has blue eyes, his dad has brown eyes and his sister has brown eyes.

I guess its all random...who knows. All I know is that brown is dominant. I think according to the Genetic "Punnett" squares that we learned in HS both of our dd's have a 50/50 chance of having light eyes. Since our DH's bring the recessive gene 2x and we each probably bring in one dominant and one recessive. Does this make sense??!?! Chat Icon

Re: BROWN OR BLUE

What color eyes did your mom's parents' have? Could she have a blue gene in her?

Before my second daughter was born, my dad had dreams/visions of her having dark hair and blue eyes. She was born with dark, dark hair, and light blue eyes. NOw, her hair has lightened, and her eyes just started turning from blue to green. (She's 2.)

My older daughter has dark, dark brown eyes (i love them as much as blue because they are so dark, they are unique) and blonde hair. (so far at least--she's 3.)

I have hazel eyes. Dh has brown.
My dad has brown. My mom has light blue.

I know lots of people where one parent has brown, the other blue, and the kids have blue eyes.

Re: BROWN OR BLUE

If your Mom doesn't have the recessive blue eye trait then it is 100% impossible to have a blue eyed baby. If she DOES carry it then your baby has a 25% chance of blue/green and a 75% chance of brown.

Does anyone in your Mom's family have blue? If she has a sibling with blue or green then she 100% positively has it, and then your baby has a 25 % chance.

Re: BROWN OR BLUE

50/50

Because your DH has light eyes the baby can only get the light eye gene from him.

Because you have brown eyes we know that you got the dark eyed gene from your mom. But because your dad has light eyes we know he gave you a light eyed gene.

So the combinations for the baby are:

D=Dark gene
L=Light gene

D/L, D/L, L/L, L/L=50/50 shot

ETA: That's as far as I go. Not really sure how the actual light color is determined.Chat Icon

Re: BROWN OR BLUE

When I was pregnant with DD I would dream about her having dark brown hair like DH and green eyes like me.

She was born with black hair and classic dark blue newborn eyes.

Over time her hair lightened to light brown and her eyes turned green.

Her hair has stayed the same color but her eyes turned hazel.

Brown eyes is a dominant gene and blue eyes is a recessive gene, so there is a chance your baby could have blue eyes if you carry that gene.

Same here. DH and his mom have blue. I have brown, as does most in my family (my sister has hazel eyes though). Both DH and I have brown hair.

DD has blonde hair and blue eyes! My DS has brown hair and brown eyes.

Re: BROWN OR BLUE

almost every single person in my family has blue or green eyes.....I have bluish green, DH has brown eyes....his dad has brown, his mom has blue. Two of his brothers have blue eyes, one has brown like him. The brother with brown eyes married a blue eyed girl and they have 3 kids- 2 with blue eyes, one with brown. The two brothers with blue eyes married women with brown eyes, and all of the children they've had (4 total between them) have brown eyes!! You just never know, brown is dominant but it can be overcome! lol My friend has brown eyes, so does her husband, their son has gorgeous BLUE eyes!!! So I guess they both carried the recessive gene and the chemistry worked out .....hope you get your blue eyed girl (against your DH's wishes! Chat Icon

I think there is a good chance she will have blue or hazel eyes, either way she is going to be beautiful.

My friend is ver dark skinned Iranian- born, very ethnic looking, her DH is very irish - blue eyes Etc

Her daughter has hazel eyes and very light skin, looks just like dad, and her son looks just like her. They are both gorgeous kids. You just never know what you will get!
