Need an Explanation re: Newborn shoots

Hey all...I'm a little confused and hope someone knows the answer I've noticed that many newborn photographers charge for their "session" fee, then some require a "minimum ordering" fee of proofs printed...then charge like 500+ if you want the digitals on a CD.....

How do you go about using a photo for a birth announcement if you aren't getting the "digitals" ? AM I even making any sense?

We're using heather from forever fireflies you don't have to buy a print package you just get a cd of the photos and you can do what you want with them.

Some photographers require you purchase a collection to receive digitals, but others sell the digital files in their a la carte menu so that you can purchase them as part of your minimum order required. However, the collections usually have a built in discount so you get more for your money (spend more-save more).
