I'm really sorry to hear what you went through. . .

Feel free to vent on this board. There are tons of very supportive ladies.

Just know you are not alone. My dear friend had osteosarcoma which left her in menopause when all was said and done (she was in her mid 20's at the time with no children).

Once she went into remission, she started the adoption process and was blessed with son. It was not easy, but there are available agencies that do allow adoption to people that had cancer.

She is now looking into a donor egg to help add to her family.

The thing that helped her the most though was therapy (pre adoption). She was able to mourn the life/children she had envisioned for herself and accept and love the life she currently has.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon i am so sorry that you may not be able to have any more biological children.
However, i know it may be little comfort, i am so happy that your cancer is gone and that hopefully, you will be able to lead a long healthy life that you can enjoy with you son for years to come.

take the time to mourn and see what life can offer you. you still have a few options you can explore when the time is right for you

Re: Hey all.

Just to understand completely...because your cancer was hormone positive getting pregnant could cause it to come out of remission? The reason i ask is because my cousin had ovarian cancer when she was a teenager and after chemo they told her she probably couldnt have any kids. But in her early 30's with one ovary and PCOS in the other, she did get pregnant. So its still possible.

But if you cannot risk getting pregnant you will find another way to have your 2nd child. There are other options (adoption, surrogacy w/ donor eggs, etc) I think its normal to feel the way you do but also try to start doing some research into your options. Sometimes having another game plan can help you.

Re: Hey all.

I just want to offer you some hugs. My DH was on Chemo (Cytoxan) and the fact that it would most definitely leave him sterile was not clearly explained to us at ALL!! The daily heartache and sadness I go through to just get through my day knowing that I won't have a biological child of my own is sheer torture so I know too well how you feel. I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings at all so I hope this will come across the right way but PLEASE try to look on the bright side and cherish your son, find joy and happiness in him. What I would give to have just one child....there are just no words.....I know this is hard for you but I live every day trying to find hope and a reason to live. Your son is a blessing and I hope for you to find a way to let go of what may/may not be and just enjoy your days with your little guy. I'm just trying to show you another side of it and I really hope that's ok. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hey all.

I don't think that there is a "Mold" for this board but I know how you feel. I wasn't sure either for myself but then I posted my story and received tons of support and love here. It was so heartwarming. Chat Icon My DH was on Cytoxan from 12/08 - 3/10. They did mention that there was a risk that DH would be sterile while on Cytoxan but that since men regenerate their sperm, he would eventually regain his ability to make sperm. Now, we seem to be hearing that he will be permanently sterile. I'm just devastated.........
