Layettes
Has anyone picked out a layette for their LO before they were born? My sister did years ago for her kids, but I don't have many friends who have done layettes recently. It's really helpful when you're team green, because you have stuff for both genders put aside.
If you did a layette, where did you go? The only place I know of is Denny's. Thanks!

The layette is a bunch of stuff that you need for the baby once it's born. Very handy for those of us who don't have bridal showers. You pick stuff out and set it aside for after the baby is born. Basic stuff like onesies, pajamas/gowns/sleepsacks, receiving blankets, towels, bibs, etc. It also is great for those of us who are team green because you can pick out a set of boy stuff and a set of girl stuff to be picked up (probably by grandma) after you give birth.

My mom had talked about doing that, but we never did. I think it was a pretty common thing to do years ago. Some of the department stores may still do them. My mom ended up getting me a bunch of gender neutral outfits and once DS was born, she went out and bought boy clothes. We also got a lot of clothes as gifts over the few weeks after DS was born.

you mean you pick things out at a store, but don't buy it?
isn't it the same as doing a registry?
i've seen the term used in stores and after seeing the description, i still don't see the distinction from putting those items on a registry along with anything else you might want.
(sorry, don't mean to hijack your legitimate question)

It's not the same as a registry because you aren't putting it on a list that other people see and will purchase for you. Usually a grandparent or other family member will buy you the whole layette. In my case, my mom really wants to do it. She will go with me to pick everything out, then pick it up after the baby is born. Also, being team green, it gives me a chance to select stuff for both genders ather than registering for all gender-neutral stuff.

Definitely Denny's - just got back from there and we got a ton of things! I picked out a coming home outfit with a matching blanket and tons of these convertible sleepsack/pants onesies that are great. And everything we got was 40% off!
