BTDT Moms- washing clothes

How many items of clothing, in what sizes should I be washing to prep for the baby's arrival?
We got a ton of clothes, in varying sizes. I dont want to take tags off and wash everything in case I end up not needing or using everything....

What should I be doing? I feel clueless

I would just wash a few items like the take home outfit and a few PJ's. A friend recently had her baby, and had to return all the newborn sizes cause the baby was born at over 8lbs and newborn wouldn't fit.

Wash the coming home outfit and a few onesies in size 0-3 months.

When I had ds I had mostly size 0-3 clothes & a handful of NB size stuff. I only washed the 1 NB outfit that I brought to the hospital with me "just in case" because I figured that I probably wouldn't need the rest of it. In the end we did (he was long & skinny), but we just washed the stuff once he was home.

As for the 0-3 month stuff, I believe that I washed all of the sleep & play 1 piece/feetie PJs and then just a handful of the cuter outfits. It was cool at the time & I couldn't get socks to stay on him so I kept him in the 1 piece PJs most of the time in the beginning & didn't take the tags off or wash the cuter outfits until later on.

I highly recommend NOT washing the newborn size. I did that with my dd and she was too big to fit into any of them. I have tons of washed newborn clothes i never used and couldnt return any of them cause i took all the tags off

I would wash 0-3 mos onesie, feetie pjs, bibs

I only have one newborn sized outfit and I did wash it just in case we need it --- but I'm thinking we probably won't --- doc is estimating about 8lbs...

I washed all of my 0-3 month stuff though. I honestly don't have a TON -- about 10 onesies, about 5 sidesnap onesies, 4 sleep and plays, 3 twopiece outfits. Everything else is either girl stuff leftover from my DD (and we are team green so I'm not going to wash it yet) or bigger sizes.

I did wash all of my sheets/towels/burpclothes/blankets, etc...because I know they will get use and pretty much right away!

The bigger sizes I will just wash as we need them!

If items are from Kohl's, they will take them back with a receipt or gift receipt even if you've washed them.

We didn't have nearly enough nb and 0-3 clothing but DD was only 7 lbs 2 oz at birth and lost a lot in the first week of life due to feeding issues. She was also very short lol. :) Now at 14 m, though, she's been in 18 m clothing for a while. You just really never know.

I washed EVERYTHING. Tons I had received were hand-me-downs, and I loved nesting and getting the closet all prepped and together. :) But that was just me. How easy is it for you to do laundry? If it's no big deal, then you can just have it ready to go in after you get the baby home. If it's a pain, I'd do as much beforehand as you can. You'll be doing 2-3 loads a week once the baby's here anyway, easily. :)

As a side note, we love All Free & Clear liquid detergent. I've used that exclusively since before DD was born. She has very very sensitive skin, bad eczema and keratosis pilaris and we've had to go to the pediatric dermatologist numerous times to get it under control, but the All Free & Clear has been great and non-irritating. It has no scent, though, so you won't get that baby smell you get from All Baby or Dreft.
