HSG Help
What can I expect from this exam? Is there any pain?
Can someone walk me through what will happen?
Thanks,

Re: HSG Help
From what I can recall (I did mine a year ago), it was done at the hospital. I took whatever the recommended dosage of advil before hand (they tell you how much and when to take it).
You basically get undressed waist down. You go into a room with this giant machine looking thing. Get on the table. Doctor inserts a speculum, then something else with the dye in it. When the dye thingy (don't you love my medical terms) gets inserted I felt crampy. Not horrible pains, think period pains. The doc has you move left and right and then its over.
The thing that surprised me the most was the amount of people in the room. I figured it would just be me and the doc, but it was the doc, a student, a nurse, and another person that took the pics. Plus the doc shouting NOW to the picture person made me giggle.
My tubes were clear, so I'm not sure if I would have felt more pain if they were not.
Good Luck!

Re: HSG Help
U found one of my old posts to help you out Good Luck!
Change into a hospital gown, stripped from the waist down. There is a doctor and he had 2 nurses with him. They cover your chest with a lead pad and pull an x-ray screen horizontally about 4 inches above your abdomen. They insert the speculum, and showed me what's going on inside there on a tv screen next to me. The nurses prep the "area" with iodine solution. The Dr. then inserted the catheter in Then they injected the dye and I watched on the screen as the dye made its way all around the tubes- no blockage!
I was relieved, but when the nurses helped me up from the table, I had a lot of blood/iodine (sorry tmi) So they helped me pad up then sent me into the bathroom to clean up and change. They have industrial sized pads in there, thank God.
I was uncomfortable for the rest of the day because of the soreness of them poking around and some discharge and spotting I took 2 Advil and I was fine. I kept a pad on the rest of the day.

Re: HSG Help
I had mine done 6 months ago and for me it did not hurt too bad...I did take some advil just in case...the worst part for me was when they were pumping the dye in...I would recommend bringing a panty liner since they give you a huge pad for the leakage...I also did mine after work so that in case it would hurt I could just go home

Re: HSG Help
for me it was similar to a pap
first if u have to pee wait till u get there..i got there and before i signed in i peed9i had just been on train for a bit)...i sign inand they giveme the cup to fill up
i was also told no sex 24 hrs before or 24 after and no metformin either(if u take that)
u change into a gown go in..stirrup u up and they go in..it literally took 2 min and hurt for a hot second as the dye went in but it was like a period cramp
then after they gave me a phone book pad..
i bled a tiny bit the rest of the day and had minor cramps but i took train home alone so i was ok
i did take asprin before the test
good luck! u will be fine!

Re: HSG Help
I had mine done in January. It wasn't exactly what I would want to do on my Saturday night, but it was not horrible. Take some Ibprofen about an hour before hand. It is almost like a pap, you lay there the doctor inserts the tube, and then he pushes the dye through. It is uncomfortable for a couple of minutes and then it is all over. You get the results right away.
Good luck!

Re: HSG Help
It's not that bad at all. I had two bad cramps during it but they passed pretty quickly! I didn't realize they were giving me a pad and wore a thong very uncomfortable for the rest of the day. I went to work right after and felt fine. Just breathe! Its very quick.
