when are you being told to stop working?

i asked my ob when he thinks i should stop working he said 32 weeks with 34 being the max.
the reason was because of gd, my weight, ivf, thyroid etc. and that i have a standing job.

now i am definately going to ask my perinatologist what his opinion is when i see him next week.

i said oh if i go out at 34 is it bedrest..he said no just take it easy.

kinda nervous bc i do not get sick/maternity pay from job so wonder how this will work out.

what have your docs said to you about work? tia

Re: when are you being told to stop working?

With my first pregnancy the doctor advised that I work until the very end! He didn't feel as if there was any need for me to stop working early. I worked until Monday the 4th and had my daughter on Wednesday the 6th! I had Gestational Diabetes and was overweight, but that was it, otherwise it was a normal pregnancy!

This time I am a SAHM so there is no taking a break from my job. Lol...I'm exhausted!

Re: when are you being told to stop working?

My goal was (and still is) to work until the very end. My blood pressure has been a borderline issue so we have been taking it week by week. I have an appointment tomorrow so I am hoping and praying that it will be okay and I can buy myself another week. Its so stressful (& sure doesn't help my BP issue!!) because I want to spend as much time as possible with my LO but I also know I got to do what's best for him and if the Dr. says I need to stop working ill do what it takes.

Re: when are you being told to stop working?

my dr originally said to stop working at 36 weeks bc i commute by driving almost 3 hours a day to work and am on my feet most of the day. my goal was to work until the very end. i carpooled so that convinced her to ease up but i ended up deciding for myself that i had to stop at 38 weeks, it was just way too much and i needed some mental prep time before the baby got here. and now im 2 days past my due date (trying to be patient!) and VERY thankful i did what i did! Re: when are you being told to stop working?

I see midwives, but also a high risk ob/gyn due to a tear during my previous csection. My high risk dr is very comfortable with me working up until the end as long as I'm not having 6 contractions/hr, that don't go away with rest/water also work on my feet, doing a very physical job. He suggested a tummy support if I was at all comfortable.

I made it clear that I want to work as long as it is safe for me and the baby, not sure if that made a difference in what his recommendation was. So, I have a cs sched for a Thursday and I plan on working until the Friday before, maybe the Monday the week of.

Re: when are you being told to stop working?

With DD I had GD and my blood pressure was high at the end they had me stop working oon a thur and that following Mon my water broke. Inbetween 1st pregnancy and this one I developed back issues. I have gd with this one too but very well controlled....I plan to go to the end unless my back is very bad. If my dr wanted me to stop working early then I would listen to him.is your GD out of control? That could be a reason.

my not out of control but not perfectly controlled either. my am's alllways suck even on my doses of glyburide...so may need insulin soon. sigh.

i thought the big thing was having a baby gain too much weight with gd....
can gd make you give birth early/or dangerously? just curious tia!

I know GD can make the baby bigger but I don't think it make you give birth early. I think as long as your sugar is basically under control it is not dangerous. Mine was soooo out of control with DD I was on insulin 3x a day and it still was off. They sometimes the hormones just makes your sugar wacky no matter how well u follow the diet etc. GL
