Is a video monitor necessary if.....
You live in a one floor apartment? My will be in the bassinet with us till he grows out of it, then in his crib in his room. But we're on one floor. Should I register for a video monitor even though I can just run into his room quickly???

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
Personally, I could not live without my video monitor and DD is 19 months . I am buying another one for baby #2! I love just being able to look over whenever I want and see DD rather than trying to guess what's going on or run into her room all the time !

Necessary... nope, but super fun to have. We didn't have one for a long time, then we were lent one and we couldn't go with out it, it was very cute watching her, and it stopped us from going into her room when it wasn't really necessary. DD is 2 now and we still watch her in the monitor.

This. If you don;t have the $$$$ to spend on one then I wouldn't bother but we love looking at DS with ours.

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
It really helped me so I didn't have to get out of bed for every little noise and go in his room. More mommy piece of mind. I actually still use it after he turned 4 because I just like to 'check' on him if I get up to use the bathroom.

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
Yes! We lived in a small apartment until DS was 15 months and then moved into a small ranch. I love my video montior. It is by far the best gift I recieved. To be able to not have to go in and check on them is great. Especially when you are trying to get them to sleep and they are crying, or they wake up and make a strange noise, but then go right back to sleep. Or when they get older and you want to check they are not trying to climb out of crib. I'm still using it and DS is almost 3.

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
We have a ranch & never had a video monitor, so I don't think it's necessary. I never found myself running in for every little sound anyway (I just wait/waited a min or two to see if he settles down on his own), so in my case I don't think it would have helped me at all.

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
it's definitely not necessary----we have a 2BR apt and just a regular monitor. it's probably nice to have, but i didn't feel the need for it because we're in close quarters

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
definately not necessary.....
my sister passed on the summer video monitor she had... I tried it twice in our 2 floor house but honestly, I'm too creeped out that people could pick up the video signal of my ds outside my house going down the block that I decided we could hear him and could always just peek in if we needed to.

Wow, I didn't know people could pick up the video signal...
I registered for an audio one, and someone bought it. So maybe I will return it after the shower and get a video one..... Not sure what to do!

I have one and don't use it. I have the summer one and I got freaked out when I saw my neighbors ds on it one morning. I use my angelcare monitor and love it.

Re: Is a video monitor necessary if.....
We have three floors in our house and have found that we barely even need the audio one --- maybe our DCs are just really loud?? I don't think we have a need for the video one, IMO.
