Not Drinking at Superbowl party

Does anyone else have avoid comments about not drinking at a Superbowl party this weekend??

My and DH's friends are generally huge boozers...but we're not out of the closet yet. I want to say I'm sick so can't drink, but still plan to eat my face off. Whatever sickness that is that makes you really hungry...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

There is a UTI medicine that state NO alcholic beverages while taking it or up to several days after. So maybe you could be on that specific medsChat Icon

With both pregnancies this is how people "guessed" I was pregnant. I am not a huge drinker but if at a party I would always have some beers. Guys wont probably realize but if there are girls there (and your friends) they will most likely know.

Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe you could say you are just getting over being sick and are on antibiotics. That way you can chalk up the eating to feeling a bit better but say you still don't feel well enough to drink.

Re: Not Drinking at Superbowl party

I honestly don't think there is any way to avoid the "chatter" you may get by not drinking if you usually do drink. I would just say I am on antibiotics and can't drink and leave it at that. People will talk, I am sure. I've done it, I've had it done to me. But if they have any tact, they won't say anything to you.

Good luck and enjoy the food!!!

This is what I did when we went away with DH's friends when I was 8w with DS (they figured it out anyway).

My friend skipped st. pattys day, which is her birthday, last year because she knew she wouldn't be able to not drink without coming out. Lets just say everyone figured it out anyhow because she never misses a pattys day!!!

Oh that's good!! And if someone asked you outright, would you deny or admit? My friends are pretty blunt.

If someone asks you just put a shocked look on your face an then look like you may cry when you say I know I may be a little bloated but do I really look pregnant. It's doesn't confirm nor deny Chat Icon

Re: Not Drinking at Superbowl party

I had this same situation last year at superbowl - i'm a big drinker and my friends would have noticed if i wasn't drinking.
I told anyone who asked that i was super hung over from going out the night before and had decided to be the designated driver so DH could drink a lot that night.

a friend later told me that she knew i was probably pregnant that day, but respected the fact that i wasn't telling yet.

if anyone actually asks you if you're pregnant - you can either say No and look at them like they're crazy.. or say 'if i was, wouldn't you think i'd like to tell you on my own terms when i'm ready?' and leave it at that.
If someone really pushes you.. tell them they're being an assshole! Chat Icon

I played the hangover card too at a halloween party and was still able to eat my face off.

Best cure for hangovers are junk food and grease. Chat Icon

Is it at a bar or a house?
do you drink beer ?
YOu can try to:
get a beer and go to the bathroom and dump it out and fill it with water
or
I was at a wedding when i was 5 weeks along and DH and I would order 2 glasses of wine and he drank out of both glasses initially - we would both hold our glasses and then put them down occasionally on the table and then I would pick up his and he would pick up mine ect....
Then what I did was have Dh order me seltzers with a splash of cranberry juice and lime and asked the bartender to put it in the same glass as a vodka cranbery - the bartender totally understood and no one even noticed what I was doing.
No one said a word to me because as the night got later, my friends kept drinking and then that helped also.Chat Icon

I basically did the same thing at a family wedding. Weeks later when I told people I was pregnant, they said, "well did you know at the wedding because we saw you drinking like a fish" lol. Little did they know I didnt have a drop of alcohol

Im a big boozer and if I tried to play the antibiotics card or the hangover card, people would have known right away.

We decided to spill the beans tomorrow. I'm 10 weeks and just had a sono on wednesday and everything looks good. I am a little nervous telling early, but these are dhs close friends so I think it's ok that they know at this point. I went out to dinner with my girl friends at 7 weeks and when the waiter came to get drink orders I couldn't order a non alcoholic drink with a straight face!

Re: Not Drinking at Superbowl party

i would walk around and hold a drink. usually just that will shut anyone up. you can have dh take sips when you both put your drinks down. for me, not having a drink in my hand would set off alarms with my nosy friends! lol

Re: Not Drinking at Superbowl party

my friend suggested this to me when I had a party last month- keep a bottle of water in your purse. take a bottle of beer into the bathroom with you, pour it out & refill it with the water in your purse (obviously clean out the bottle as best as you can in the sink!!)
Or if they're having mixed drinks, try making yourself a seltzer with juice in it & tell people theres vodka in it.
