Japanese straightening? tell me why I should get it
I know this type of question comes up a lot but I'm nervous about taking the plunge with JS.
I went to a place today to get a price and with my hair it would be 225 for JS or about 155 for Keratin. She was trying to get me to go JS.
I want pin straight hair and hardly ever use a blow dryer. I'm just worried about the grow out and the potential damage

I have a lot of experience with JS. If you want pin straight hair then go with JS. It's low maintenance. If you go to a reputable place then you don't have to worry about damage. The only down side to JS is that once it grows out you will have half straight hair and half curly, which looks super funny.
I have had keratin also and you defintley have to stlll blow dry it but it definitely makes your hair soft and it takes a lot less time to dry.
Make sure you do your research on who to go to for JS. I have had went to a place in Bethpage and they messed my hair up big time. They caused so much damage.

Yes, if you want totally pin straight hair with no maintenance, go JS! I did it once about 5 years ago. I LOVED it!!! All summer I walked out of the shower, pulled a comb through my hair and the only drying I did was to turn my car AC on so it wasn't dripping when I got to work.
Growing out - well, maybe it is because my hair doesn't curl straight from the top - it's usually a little flat up there - but it wasn't THAT bad. I would just try to blow the top for a few minutes and it was still fine. After about a year for me it started to get pretty annoying, but still manageable. Eventually I ended up chopping it all off and donating about 12 inches (my hair grows pretty fast.)
As far as damage, my hair looked healthier after the JS - though it did seem more was falling out than normal, but I have a lot to begin with so it wasn't an issue.
I've not done Keratin - I keep thinking about it only because w/ the JS, my hair would not hold a curl at all. But I've heard it's great. Though the other thing that has kept me from it, the terrible chemicals it can have in it scares me.
