Had my baby- and info on hospital policy

I delivered my baby boy, Jack Allan, on 10/14/11. He was a week early delivered by c-section due to a placenta abruption.

The recovery has been a little more difficult than with DS#1 but we are home and doing well.

I wanted to jump on real quick and note that I delivered at Mercy Hospital and they have followed a similar guideline as Winthrop. All the room are private and they want the babies to stay in the rooms with the mothers to encourage breastfeeding and bonding.

I have to say that this stay was not as enjoyable as with DS#1. First my recovery was very rough and the first night the nurses would wake me up every 2 hours to try to breastfeed. I definitely was in pain and not into it and neither was my newborn. I had the nurse standing over me tickling my son's feet to try to keep him awake while she was moving me around trying to keep me awake.

When my doctor checked in on me we agreed at night my son should go to the nursing so I could sleep and recover. The baby was taken at 12am and returned 6am. Before they took the baby they lectured me on breastfeeding, bonding, nipple confusion, etc. They tried to get me to override my dr's orders.

I breastfeed my DS#1 and will this one as well however, the experience almost turned me off from the whole thing. I really wanted to have the opportunity to recover and I felt that the hospital policy was more focused on breastfeeding and bonding than my recovery.

Sorry to hear that the hospital staff was such arses! I would write a letter! The nurses told me they always liked getting thank you letters so I would thank them for being overbearing and annoying!

congrats on baby! I agree with writing a letter. hospitals need to know how their policies are affecting new moms. sounds terrible. glad u are home now. enjoy baby

Congratulations!!

I'm so sorry you didn't have a better experience at the hospital. I don't understand how nurses being so overbearing seems like it could be a good policy. Hope you're having a better time now that you're at home!
