Re: How do you ladies eat healthy?

I really haven't changed much from how I ate before...

I don't eat any white breads or flour, all whole wheat/whole grains (with the exception of my Macaroni on sundays)

Every night's dinner I make sure to have a vegetable of some sort prepared (whether or not DH eats it)

Fruit makes up a couple of my snacks throughout the day (grapes, peaches, apples) also I have been cutting up cucumber alot and having that as a snack during the day, with light ranch...very refreshing too!

but I still will have taco bell or burger king once a week here or there if i have a craving, or a couple of chips ahoy at night if I even want a snack...

I'm not going crazy health nut, but I'm also not pigging out at any point in time...

MODERATION is my key...

I make sure all my snacks are either fruit or veggies, so I eat a lot of honey crisp apples, celery, watermelon and bananas. Breakfast is usually a chobani yogurt mixed with grape nuts. I get all my dinner recipes from Cooking Light. Every issue has a handful of recipes that take less than 30 minutes to prepare. Lunches are either PBJ or a big salad with a Morning Star Farms fake chicken patty. So far I havent gained a pound.

Re: How do you ladies eat healthy?

Ahhh, I'm so happy to be in the second trimester. I'm trying to eat better too but I still have some nausea and food aversion.

These are some things I try to do.

Have at least one piece of fruit a day. I usually end up having two since I have a banana in my cereal but I also try to switch up the fruit - apple, grape, nectarine, etc

-trying to eat FIBER to help me go. Grape nuts are great! 7 grams of fiber in 1/2 cup. Low sugar, has iron and 50% DV of folic acid. I have that with a sprinkle of raisins and sliced up banana with milk for breakfast and sometimes late after noon snack. Good on yogurt too.

-baby carrots and string cheese as snacks.

-I have a "steamer" in the morning or before bed. Basically hot milk (1% organic) and some honey and cinnamon. Besides the fact that it tastes good, I am trying to be conscious of getting lots of calcium. I read that the baby will draw calcium from your bones if there is not an adequate amount in your system.

I try my best but I refuse to go crazy watching everything in my mouth. For example, the other night I was craving potatos. I literally had potato chips, potato wedges & pierogies for dinner. Chat Icon Not very well balanced but I know my body and I have to satisfy a craving when I get it or I'll go nuts thinking about it. And I ate it and haven't craved it since.

So if you eat healthy 75% of the time, I think that is great.

Re: How do you ladies eat healthy?

I just saw that you would like to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible.

Some things you can do/make:

-buy rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. SUCH a time saver for practically everything. Shred it and put it on salads. Make chicken sandwiches with some sliced up veggies and hummus for dipping. I also use it to make super fast enchiladas or chicken quesadillas.

-stock up on the cartons of broths. I use pacific organic chicken stock all the time when i cook. for example: super fast butternut squash soup. I came up with this recipe and it's pretty satisfying for fall. Buy frozen cut up butternut squash. You can use fresh but they are a PAIN to cut up imo. Basically you bring the chicken broth to a boil. Add the butternut squash and a quarter of sweet onion. Sometimes I add half an apple or a carrot. Boil until everything is soft. puree. season with salt, pepper, a little nutmeg. you can add a splash of cream. But it should smooth, velvety and not watery.

If you weren't a healthy eater before, don't do a complete 180 - it will be torture and discouraging. Just make small changes: get a baked poato instead of fries, make mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatos, try a new fruit or vegetable everytime you go shopping. I think it's great you want to do what's best for baby Chat Icon

Re: How do you ladies eat healthy?

I try to have my carbs early in the day if I'm going to have them.

I have lots of fiber (90 calorie Fiber one bars for snack, Fiber one cereal).

Lunch is usually grilled chicken (those perdue shortcuts work when you don't want to make your own or can't) on a bed of baby spinach or turkey on a whole wheat wrap or pita.

I always have fruit during the day and dinner is usually chicken (baked or grilled) with a veggie medley (no carbs).

I crave sweets at night before bed and what I've found is that if I eat the sugar free stuff I satisfy the urge yet don't get that sugar spike that turns to fat. That one little change curbed my weight gain signficantly, I think. Sugar free jello pudding and sugar free cookies have saved me several pounds!!
