Doula

Are they only if you plan to go drug free? I am attempting a VBAC with this baby and honestly am scared to death because my midwife told me that my ob/gyn did EVERYTHING wrong with my first and should have never gone through everything that I did.

I do plan on getting an epidural but I kind of like the idea of having a doula be there for me to keep me calm and help me through this, esp before I can get the epidural.
Is this a stupid idea?

Not a stupid idea at all. Doulas offer invaluable support and can help you understand everything that is going. A good doula should always respect your choices- whether drug free or not.

Before the epi, she can apply counterpressure or even meet you at home to labor there if you so desire. I would go for it.

Make sure you find one what respects your decisions. I hired one and did not have a great experience at all. She kind've did nothing as soon as I got the epidural and was just a cause of stress.

Depending on your midwife she may or may not have a birthing assistant.
