What are your thoughts on this? Bedding/Baby room related...

Dh plays the bass guitar and right now the extra room upstairs is set up as his office and his guitar room. We don't really use the office aspect of the room, and he only plays his bass about once every 2 weeks or so for an hour or two, and never when we are at home. He only plays when we are out of the house because he doesn't like cranking it up while we are here.

So right now his Amp is on an amp stand in the closet. It takes up maybe 1/4 of the closet space. Then he has 3 of his bass guitars on the walls on hooks, and another two on stands on the floor.

I want to convert the room over as a room for baby #2. I see no reason why our 6yo DD should have to share a room with a newborn if we have a barely used room that we can clean out and set up for the baby. He doesn't think that's "fair" -- that he won't have any place to put his guitars and he doesn't want them to go into storage bc he will never play.

So the compromises are to either set up a corner in our bedroom with the guitars. ... or ... if we have a boy...let the guitars (maybe 2 of them) and the amp stay in the room.

This is my idea---if its a boy, do a rock-star theme. The 2 guitars that he plays the most can stay in there hung up high on the walls, the amp can stay in the closet, and we will chose rock star or star bedding and make it a whole theme. He can continue to use the room when we are not home.

Of course, if we have a girl, then he is out of luck and we'll have to find some kind of other arrangement.

These are two beddings that I thought would work with the theme!

Very cute idea and I love the bedding but my concern would be that once dc2 is mobile he/she is going to be attracted to the equipment. Then what?


That is a concern for me too. One good thing is that the amp and his effects (which have lots of buttons, knobs) will be in the closet and the closet door will be shut! So it won't be out where the baby can touch it normally.

And the guitars will be pretty far up off of the wall. The hooks are about 6 inches from the ceiling where he has them hanging now, so they will probably be JUST out of reach until the baby is a bit older.

And we could always move them out of the room by that time...since we'd have a few more years to reconfigure...Which is probably what we'd do by that time anyway.

We do share a house with FIL and he has a workroom downstairs with all of his tools/etc and eventually that should become DH's guitar space, since FIL rarely uses the tools anymore. I just don't want to make FIL rearrange all of his stuff just yet!

The more I think of this idea the more it grows on me. I think it would be a cool way to tie something in that is so important to my DH with the new baby.

Of course, it is only if we have a boy! If we have a girl the room will be girly all the way and he has to figure out some other place for his guitars.

These are my DH's guitars. I would want him to hang only 2 of them...these 3 are what he plays the most. Don't mind the "man-cave-ness" of the room already! It's the only room in the house that we haven't painted bc he kinda likes it looking like a man cave!

Love the idea and love the second bedding. I would rehang the guitars at an angle so they are higher off the ground. I think they would look more appealing to the eye that way also.
