My day at SS labor and delivery

this is todays adventure, with a little background info

Hi All,
I have been going for routine pre term labor test at the perinatologists office every 2 weeks for a few months. 2 Weeks ago my cervix had shortened (effaced) from 3.6 to 2.4. Anything above 4 is safe. This was enough of a change to prescribe bed rest. At these apt they also monitor the babies movement/heart rates and uterine contractions. The babies always look great and I have shown some little contractions that I have never felt. The final part of this apt. is a FFN test http://www.ffntest.com/info/fetal_test/what_fetal.html. I have always negative result which is what we want.

Today 30 weeks- Cervix shortened to 1.5, contractions were steady (I still can not feel them) and lasted for over a minute. This made everyone upset. They sent me to the hospital without the FFN results, but with the FFN swab so the hospital could test it.
When I got to the hospital they hooked me up to the same monitors as the perinatologists office and gave me iv fluids. They tested the FFN test and it is positive. The positive test caused them to give me steroids to help develop the babies lungs. They also started me on Procardia 4x a day to stop contractions.
I need to go back to hospital tomorrow for more monitoring and second steroid injection and to my ob the following day.

Good news is I feel great and the babies are wonderful. Hoping to keep them in for as long as we can.

my advice for everyone, never go to the dr without phone fully charged and a good book. you never know where you will end up.

glad to hear you were able to get the injections and everything. i've had 3 FFN's - all negative at this point, so I understand what you were going through (to an extent). keep those babies cooking!!

I was in L&D last week with contractions and had an FFN test which was luckily negative.

I'm glad you're doing well. It sounds like you are in very capable hands. Take it easy and keep cooking those babies!
