Re: gym rats
I went all the way until my membership expired with DD. I think I was 7 months. Then I just did toning at home. I knew I wouldn't be going back for a while, so I didn't renew.

Re: gym rats
With my first DD, I went 4X per week until I was 38 weeks. At about 33 weeks, I stopped lifting weights and just did about 30-45 minutes on the elliptical.
With this pregnancy, I make it to the gym 3X per week. I'm 26 weeks now. I hope to make it as long as I can but its definitely harder this time around chasing around a 14 month old
I do think that working out made a huge difference in the delivery of my first. She came 2 days early and I was only in labor for 3 hours. Very easy delivery.

Re: gym rats
With my first, I went until 16 weeks and stopped because of placenta previa. My doc said it was still ok, but that if it didn't clear up by 20 weeks, I would have to stop. That made me nervous, so I stopped anyway, and four weeks later wasn't allowed to go. When the previa went away, I tried to go again at 28 weeks and the growth in those weeks and lack of regular trips during that time made it hard. I only went once.
With my second, I was out of my routine and didn't go the entire pregnancy. I'm no longer a gym rat at all!

Re: gym rats
I took about a two week hiatus at 30 weeks.. which was the week before, and planning to go back to the gym today. Even though I wasn't hitting the gym, I was walking, and doing everything else which kept the momentum going. I'm hoping to continue.. we'll see.

I lift 3-4 days per week and do 30 minutes of elliptical on the days I lift. I do 60 minutes of elliptical on the 1-2 days that I don't lift. I also walk to work 20 minutes each way.
ETA: I usually take 1-2 days per week off from the gym

wow that is amazing, now I feel like I am not doing enough. Did your doc ever mention keeping your heart rate below 140? If so how do you do that? I tried the elliptical once this pregnancy and heart rate went straight up over 145

Re: gym rats
First PG I had stopped by 15 weeks - pure laziness.
This time around I'm now 17 weeks and still going 4 - 5x per week, I alternate elliptical & running. I can only squeeze in 1/2 hour workouts though.
I'm hoping to keep it up until 38 weeks. I realize that might not be possible but that's my goal.

I actually don't remember whether she said anything about the 140 rule but I read somewhere it isn't a big deal if your body is used to going over 140. I do try to keep it under, though, and I actually have a hard time getting it up that high (assuming the sensors on the elliptical are right!). I do pretty low resistance/intensity, though.

Re: gym rats
I was coming off marathon training this last pregnancy and by 6-7 months I could barely run 1-3 miles at a time. by 7.5 months I stopped running - i was just too big. Months 8 and 9 were just too painful to even walk (for me! Many people run and walk up to their due dates...I did with #1)
for weights, I did a lot of arm routines and did push ups off of walls.
the 140 rule is subjective. It's a good guideline, but not a hard fast rule. If you have a high max HR, so can definitely go over. The key is that you should be able to talk in mostly full sentences. I have a pretty high max hr (200+ which doesn't fit the typical formulas), so I noticed that mine would hover around the 160 mark and I would be moving like a snail.

Re: gym rats
I just started walking last week at 15 weeks! I was working out prior to becoming pregnant but the morning sickness and exhaustion was so severe that I couldn't do anything. I still don't feel anywhere near normal and am still queasy and tired but I started walking. I feel so out of shape. I can only do 20 minutes of walking. I feel pathetic!

Re: gym rats
I do 30-45 min about 4 times a week on the elliptical but on very low resistance. I also walk 15 min each way to my office/Penn.
