Glucose test question
I have my glucose test on Tuesday morning and I made my appointment online. They asked me if I would be fasting. What is the difference? and if I fast, when should I stop eating?

Normally you don't have to fast for the 1 hour, only the 3 hour. But a lot of people try to watch their sugar intake the day before just to be on the safe side.

They didn't tell me to fast. I did it right in the morning though so I didn't eat before.
All they told me is to not eat for the one hour after I take the drink.

all dr's tell you something different to do prior to the 1 hour.
my dr said to eat normal breakfast that morning.
i assume it doesn't matter much in regards to the 1 hour. but fasting is a definite for the 3 hour, should you have to take that (hopefully not).

I just took my glucose test Tuesday night (the 1 hour). The paper they gave me just said to fast for 1 hour prior to the appt. (no water, mints, vitamins, anything). I did it for 2 hours just to be on the safe side. Good Luck!

The only reason to fast before the 1 hour is because it is not the most accurate test, and what you have eaten prior to it can affect the result and cause a false positive. So, while it is not necessary to fast, some doctors will recommend that you do, or that you take it first thing in the morning before eating breakfast, to hopefully produce a more accurate result. Like PP said, every doctor wants something different though, so I would definitely call your doctor and find out what they want you to do.

You should talk to your Dr. My office gave me a paper that said this is NOT a fasting test. It said to eat some protein and light carbs before going and suggested bread, eggs, cheese, etc as a good choice. It said to avoid juice, jelly, sugar, etc. on the day of the test.
